Emergencies can amplify existing health inequities, making it essential to integrate equity considerations into preparedness, response, and recovery planning. This webinar, hosted by the National Collaborating Centres for Healthy Public Policy, Determinants of Health, and Infectious Diseases, will share knowledge, tools, and stories that can help public health organizations build resilience and sustain attention to health equity in emergencies.

By the end of this webinar, participants will be able to:

  • Recognize how emergencies exacerbate health inequities.
  • Identify practical strategies for embedding equity into public health organizational planning and decision-making.
  • Learn about tools, resources, and training opportunities to sustain equity-focused emergency preparedness.

Discover this infographic showcasing 20 organizational leadership competencies for governing public health systems in Canada.

Developed through a study led by Dr. Erica Di Ruggiero and her collaborators, these competencies are grouped into eight domains: systems thinking, policy development, implementation and evaluation, partnership and collaboration, anti-oppression and decolonization, organizational learning, oversight and monitoring, resource management, and legal competence. This work aims to strengthen leadership capacity and governance across Canada’s public health systems.

The NCCHPP is pleased to collaborate in the dissemination of this work that contributes to public health competency development in Canada.

This report presents the findings from a 2024 survey that explored how Public Health Units across Ontario are using health-supportive tools in their engagement with municipal land use planning processes. The report identifies key barriers, opportunities, and recommendations for future action, including a repository of shareable tools. This report was prepared by the Built Environment Work Group at the Ontario Public Health Association.
