Workplace Health and Safety Planning

The province is supporting workplaces to implement safety plans to reduce the spread of COVID-19. A COVID-19 Safety Plan guide and template has been created to aid workplaces to develop procedures for safety practices such as staff protection measures, staff and client screening, managing potential cases/exposures, and routine evaluation of these plans. This guide also discusses the Hierarchy of Controls, as mentioned in the Primary Care Provider Teleconference, which outlines control measures that can be implemented to reduce risk to workers by breaking the chain of transmission of the COVID-19 virus.

Hierarchy of Controls

When developing and/or evaluating your workplace safety plan, it may be helpful to review the Guidance for Health Care: Health and Safety COVID-19 tip sheet to ensure risks are being mitigated wherever possible.

Posters for Provider Settings

In response to the Primary Care Provider Teleconference on July 2, 2020, we have assembled visual resources and added a Posters section to our COVID-19 Resources for Health Care Providers webpage. We encourage you to print these posters and place them in both clinical and patient-facing locations as appropriate. A few resources of note are included below.

Clinical Spaces

  • How to safely don (put on) and doff (take off) personal protective equipment to place near PPE storage locations. As mentioned in the teleconference, it is recommended for colleagues to regularly watch each other’s technique to support one another and promote a culture of safety in the workplace.
  • Handwashing technique reminders to place near each sink.

Patient Spaces (waiting rooms, patient rooms)

Immunization Team staff will be distributing posters upon their annual inspection visits.
