Updates

Epidemiological

  • Hastings and Prince Edward Counties have 826 cumulative lab-confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 97 active, 721 resolved and 8 deceased. There were 11 new cases reported today.
    • There is no local long-term care facility experiencing a COVID-19 outbreak; additional outbreak details can be found online.

  • VOCs: 237
  • Vaccines administered to date:  53,889
  • Fully vaccinated individuals to date:  3,642
  • Ontario is reporting 3,469 cases and 22 deaths as nearly 40,600 tests have been completed. There are 1,074 new cases in Toronto, 775 in Peel, 406 in York Region, 256 in Durham and 197 in Ottawa.

  • In Canada, as at April 19, 2021, there are 1,131,773 total cases of COVID-19 with 88,327 active cases and 1,019,779 recovered. To date, there have been 23,667 COVID-19 related deaths and more than 30,041,115 individuals tested.

Provincial

Quick Summary of Provincial Developments:

Starting Tuesday, April 20, 2021 Ontario Safely Expands Age Eligibility for AstraZeneca COVID-19 Vaccine to 40+

  • By extending vaccination eligibility for the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine at pharmacies and primary care settings to individuals aged 40 and over, Ontario will be able to offer the protection of the vaccine to more Ontarians earlier than anticipated. With supply of AstraZeneca available at this time, the expansion of eligibility will also significantly increase access to vaccines in hot spot communities.

Ontario strengthens enforcement of Stay-at-Home Order

  • Prohibit all outdoor social gatherings and organized public events, except for with members of the same household or one other person from outside that household who lives alone or a caregiver for any member of the household;
  • Close all non-essential workplaces in the construction sector;
  • Reduce capacity limits to 25 percent in all retail settings where in-store shopping is permitted. This includes supermarkets, grocery stores, convenience stores, indoor farmers' markets, other stores that primarily sell food and pharmacies; and,
  • Close all outdoor recreational amenities, such as golf courses, basketball courts, and soccer fields, with limited exceptions.
  • limiting the capacity of weddings, funerals, and religious services, rites or ceremonies to 10 people indoors or outdoors.

Ontario Provincial Booking System for COVID-19 Vaccines Information:

  • Individuals who will be turning 60 or older (effective April 7) and wish to make an appointment — or an individual trusted to make an appointment on their behalf — can visit Ontario.ca/bookvaccine.
  • For individuals who do not have internet access, they can call the Provincial Booking Line at
    1-833-943-3900, open Monday to Sunday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
  • When booking an appointment, individuals will be asked for information from their green Ontario health card, birth date, postal code and email address and/or phone number. At the time of booking, eligible individuals will schedule their first and second vaccination appointments.
  • Individuals who still have a red and white health card, or who require assistance with booking, can call the Provincial Vaccine Information Line number at 1-888-999-6488.

Federal

Quick Summary of Federal Developments:

  • On April 19, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, the Honourable Chrystia Freeland, released Budget 2021: A Recovery Plan for Jobs, Growth, and Resilience. Budget 2021 includes $101.4 billion over three years in proposed investments as part of the Government of Canada’s growth plan that will create good jobs and support a resilient and inclusive recovery.
  • Through the Wellness Together Canada online portal, people of all ages across the country can access immediate, free and confidential mental health and substance use supports, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • This week marks National Volunteer Week (April 18-24, 2021), with the theme of “The Value of One, The Power of Many.” People across the country have been supporting one another throughout the pandemic in big and small ways.
