New Publication: A Socio- Ecological Analysis of the Interactions Between the COVID-19 Pandemic and Health Inequalities

This report proposes multilevel interventions to promote health equity, strengthen resilience, and improve responses to future public health crises. Based on a literature review of OECD countries with socio-economic profiles similar to Canada’s, the study examines the impact of the pandemic on health inequalities.

This publication is intended for public health professionals and managers, as well as emergency response teams seeking to deepen their reflection in order to better take social vulnerabilities into account in their practices and decision-making.

Image announcing the new publication Vaping and Tobacco Products Sales Following a Vaping Flavour Ban in Québec from 2022 to 2024: Summary

Vaping and Tobacco Products Sales Following a Vaping Flavour Ban in Québec from 2022 to 2024: Summary

In 2023, vaping remained particularly widespread among adolescents and young adults in Quebec, notably because of the appeal of flavours. To reduce its appeal among young people, the Quebec government banned, as of October 31, 2023, the sale of flavoured vaping liquids, with the exception of tobacco flavour.

This research summary presents the main findings of a report (available in French) showing that sales of these products in branded convenience stores and gas stations in Québec fell by half after the ban came into effect, with the exception of tobacco flavour. This decline was not accompanied by an increase in tobacco product sales in Quebec.

A webinar (in French) presenting the main findings of this report was held last February. To watch it, click here.
