BodyWorks Announcements

About Us, Mission and Vision Update

Since its beginning at UBC Osborne Centre, BodyWorks has grown and evolved alongside the students, staff and community members who have helped shape it. We are especially grateful to the many long-time participants who placed their trust in us and have continued their journey with BodyWorks through our move to the Gateway Health Building.

The move to Gateway Health Building in May 2026 marked an important milestone in the development of BodyWorks and its place in the School of Kinesiology. With access to dedicated exercise, teaching and research space, BodyWorks has been evolving to more intentionally support student learning and research through the delivery of evidence-based community programming. BodyWorks exists in part to support the School of Kinesiology's academic mission, and as such, these priorities will continue to play a role in programming and service delivery decisions.

Important Program and Eligibility Changes

Fitness Assessment Fees

Starting September 2026, Personal Trainer/Exercise Physiologist-Led Fitness Assessments will transition from a complimentary service to a paid service, with booking fees supporting delivery and administrative costs.

As part of our academic and community engagement collaborations, BodyWorks will be offering a limited number of Student-Led Fitness Assessments at the end of the fall and winter terms, available only to eligible Returning Changing Aging and Legacy Strength participants.

Participants in all group exercise programs must still complete a fitness assessment on initial application and annually to maintain registration eligibility.

Why Are We Making These Changes?

As BodyWorks continues to integrate student learning, research, and community programming, our assessment process must support all three objectives.

The updated model allows us to:

  • Maintain high-quality assessments for all participants

  • Support experiential learning opportunities for kinesiology students

  • Ensure sustainable delivery of assessment services

  • Continue creating opportunities for research and innovation within BodyWorks programs
