Official Plan Phase 2 Update & Workshop Announcement

The Town would like to provide an update to residents regarding Phase 2 of the Official Plan Review. The Town would also like to thank residents for their patience as Town staff worked to confirm the public workshop schedule. Details regarding the Phase 2 survey results, background papers and public workshops are listed below:

Public Workshops: Public workshops seeking input on Phase 2 of the Official Plan Review project have been scheduled throughout November. These workshops will engage the public by taking a closer look at critical topics as they relate to future land-use decisions in the Town. For meeting details, please visit the project webpage.

Background Papers: Ten Background Papers are complete and can be accessed on the project webpage. The final two Background Papers, the Building Heights Study and Housing Needs Assessment, will be available in October ahead of the scheduled public workshops.

Public Survey: The Phase 2 Official Plan Review and Community Design Guidelines Survey closed on August 13, 2023 and received 603 responses. A report summarizing the survey response is available on the project webpage.

Open Fields Farm Tour

This past Saturday was a day of discovery for hundreds of visitors who explored the Town's first Open Fields Farm Tour. The event provided an opportunity for the public to learn about farming and agriculture at five unique locations.

The Town would like to thank the host farms that participated and the volunteers who spent the day providing tours and educating guests. If you participated in the farm tour and collected stamps as you visited the locations, don’t forget to enter for your chance to win an Open Fields prize package!

Town Receives $10,000 "Treemendous Communities" Grant

The Town of The Blue Mountains and Tree Trust TBM have received a $10,000 “Treemendous Communities” Grant from Tree Canada to expand the naturalized area of Nipissing Ridge Park. The Town will be hosting a community planting event with the help of Tree Trust TBM on Saturday, October 28, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. If you're interested in volunteering, please visit the link below.

Celebrate Fire Prevention Week at the 2023 Fire Open House!

The Town of The Blue Mountains Fire Department invites the community to attend the annual Fire Open House on October 14th, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. This exciting event will be hosted at Fire Station #1, located at 496916 Grey Road #2 & Clark Street in Thornbury. Come and celebrate Fire Prevention Week, meet the Town's dedicated firefighters, tour the fire trucks, and learn about fire safety in an engaging and interactive way. There will be live demonstrations, hands-on activities, opportunities to ask questions, and much more!

Moreau Park Redevelopment Survey & Concept Plan

The Town has launched a public survey to gain feedback from residents regarding the Moreau Park Redevelopment Project.

In September 2022, the Thornbury-Clarksburg Rotary Club approached Town Council with the concept of revitalizing Moreau Park in Thornbury under the theme, “Kindness at Play.” The elements proposed included a new skate park for all ages and abilities, a year-round paved walking path, a sensory garden and an accessible playground.

The results of the survey will be used to help inform the concept designs by identifying the community's priorities. The survey can be completed until October 15, 2023.

Thanksgiving Town Hall Closure

The Town of The Blue Mountains would like to advise residents of upcoming service changes due to the Thanksgiving Holiday.

Town Hall
Town Hall will be closed on Monday, October 9, 2023, for the Thanksgiving holiday. Town Hall will re-open with regular hours on Tuesday, October 10, 2023.

Waste Collection
Curbside waste collection will occur as usual on Monday, October 9, and for the remainder of the week.

Fall Yard Waste Pickup

Curbside yard waste collection will begin on Monday, October 16 and run until Friday, November 17. Yard waste will be collected on your regular curbside collection day and must be curbside by 7:00 a.m. Residents are limited to 10 compostable bags or containers per week. Excess or oversized leaf and yard waste can be dropped off free-of-charge to the Town's Landfill and Recycling Depot anytime during regular operating hours.

Proposed Renaming of the Craigleith Depot
At the July 10, 2023 Council meeting, Council received a formal request from The Blue Mountains
Public Library to rename the Craigleith Depot to the “Craigleith Station”. At the August 28, 2023 Council meeting, Council directed staff to schedule a Public Meeting on October 31, 2023 to receive comments regarding the potential renaming of the Craigleith Depot. Staff will provide a follow up staff report to the
November 27, 2023 Committee of the Whole meeting that will summarize the public comments received and provide recommendations for Council to consider at the December 11, 2023 Council meeting.

Application for Zoning By-law Amendment and Plan of Subdivision
Property Location: Plan 16M8 Part of Block 1
The proposal involves the development of a Draft Plan of Subdivision to create 58 residential lots, 2 parks, and 2 servicing blocks. The proposed zoning by-law amendment would rezone the subject property from
Development ‘D’ zone to Residential One ‘R1-3-XX’, Residential Two ‘R2-XX’, and Open Space ‘OS’ to permit 45 single detached dwellings and 13 rowhouses. The dwellings are proposed to connect to municipal water and wastewater services. The proposal includes the extension of West Ridge Drive, the construction of a new road, and multiple links to the Georgian Trail. The subject property is currently vacant.

Application for Zoning By-law Amendment
Property Location: 107 Martin Grove (Plan 950 Lot 54)
The proposal is to create an exception in Zoning By-law 2018-65, as amended, to permit the use of the existing single detached dwelling as a Bed and Breakfast. The subject lands are currently zoned Residential One ‘R1-1’. The existing dwelling contains 4 bedrooms, 3 of which will be used as guest rooms and the remaining one by the owner. This proposal is also subject to Site Plan Control. The effect of the application is to rezone the portion of the subject lands zoned Residential one ‘R1-1’ to Residential One ‘R1-1-9’ zone.
