TRANSPORTATION MASTER PLAN SURVEY

Share with us how to make Squamish a great place to walk, ride a bike, wheel, take transit, and drive as the community grows. Visit Let's Talk Squamish to complete our survey, or chat with us at Junction Park on Saturday, August 10 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. 

NEW AFFORDABLE HOUSING AVAILABLE

Housing Squamish, in partnership with the District of Squamish, Polygon Homes, and BC Housing, is pleased to announce that applications are now open to rent eight new homes in the Highline community at Garibaldi Springs.

These new homes are designed for families who live, work, and play in Squamish and are in need affordable housing.

House Squamish invites eligible families to submit their application between August 6 and 31.

SQUAMISH ARTS FESTIVAL

The Squamish Arts Festival is on now featuring workshops, talks, and live music at venues throughout Squamish. 

Make sure to mark your calendar for Saturday, August 10, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Junction Park for a family-friendly day of live music, roaming performers, food trucks and an artisan market hosted by Neighbourhood Craft.

Please note that Cleveland Avenue will be closed between Victoria and Main Street for the duration of the event. Attendees are encouraged to walk or bike, with complimentary bike parking available at Stan Clarke Park.

AGE FRIENDLY COMMUNITY PLAN

Age-friendly communities allow for healthy, safe and equitable aging. To help create our plan, the District of Squamish is reaching out to community members of all ages, especially seniors who are comfortable  sharing their experiences.

You can share your opinions through a short survey, in person through our comment boxes at The 55 Activity Centre and Westwinds, or by contacting our Equity and Inclusion Coordinator Keely Kidner to learn more and share: kkidner@squamish.ca

THE RE-USE-IT FAIR IS BACK!

When: August 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Where: Brennan Park Recreation Centre Auditorium

What's accepted?

  • Small appliances in good working order or in need of minor repair.
  • Large appliances in good working order.
  • Furniture, household items, garden tools, sports equipment, pet accessories, and seasonal items in reasonable condition.

What's not accepted?

  • TVs, computers, printers, VCRs (recycle these at the Bottle Depot).
  • Toys and other kids’ accessories (there will be a specific kid’s swap in November).
  • Fabrics and clothing (there will be a clothing and book swap in October).
  • Books, music, games (there will be a clothing and book swap in October).
  • Mattresses (recycle these at the landfill).
  • Items broken or damaged beyond repair.

Please note:

Folks will be asked to self-sort. Volunteers will be on-site to help find the right location for items. Items need to be clean and in working order. We are unable to accept broken or dirty items.

We can only accept items that fit in the categories described. Furniture will be accepted based on weather. Drop off items will ONLY be accepted between 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. 

This event is organized by the District of Squamish and the Squamish Climate Action Network to advance a circular economy and reduce avoidable waste. NOTICE OF TRAFFIC AND NOISE IMPACTS

TEMPORARY DISCOVERY TRAIL CLOSURE

Crews will be conducting ditch remediation work at the intersection of Industrial Way and Highway 99. This will result in a one-week closure of Discovery Trail between August 12-16. Detours will be marked for cyclists and pedestrians via Production Way.

SOIL REMOVAL WORK
Crews will be working on a project to remove hydrocarbon contaminated soil at 39619 Galbraith Avenue.

Work is targeted to complete September 10. Work will mostly occur within bylaw hours but will be starting as early as 2 a.m. and finishing as late as 6 p.m. Work will not be occurring on the weekend.

SP'AKW'US FEATHER PARK KITE CLOSURE

The watersports beach at Sp’akw’us Feather Park on the oceanfront remains temporarily closed to kites and kiteboarders. While an investigation is underway, kites are being restricted out of caution to ensure public safety.
 

Wing Foiling and windsurfing continue to be permitted.

 

 

 

STAGE 2 WATER RESTRICTIONS IN EFFECT

Stage 2 divides the community into seven areas, and provides each area with ONE day upon which they can water WITH A SPRINKLER:

  • Monday - Valleycliffe, Hospital Hill
  • Tuesday - Downtown
  • Wednesday - Dentville, Business Park, North Yards
  • Thursday - Loggers Lane East, Quest University
  • Friday - Garibaldi Highlands
  • Saturday - Garibaldi Estates
  • Sunday - Brackendale

Even addresses: 6 a.m. to 9 a.m.
Odd addresses: 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Pro Tip: Inexpensive automatic timers are a great way to pre-schedule your watering if you are not home.

DEVELOPMENT REVIEW

LATEST INFRASTRUCTURE IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS

Work to upgrade and repair select watermains throughout Squamish is underway:

  • August: Government Road near Depot Road.
  • August: Flushing and video inspections of the sanitary mains in the Downtown area.

Please expect traffic impacts near each area due to excavation work, and possible single-lane alternating traffic.
