BRENNAN PARK RECREATION CENTRE UPDATE

Brennan Park Recreation Centre staff have posted notices around the facility to raise awareness about a growing issue. Youth attendance at the centre, on Friday evenings in particular (during public skates and hockey games), is resulting in increased problems of vandalism and a lack of respect for staff, security, and other patrons. This is due to the challenging behaviour of some of the youth, though the majority of young people who attend are generally respectful.

Through connecting with youth-oriented groups, such as the schools and minor hockey, the District is hopeful that the situation can be resolved without having to suspend any of the youth-focused activities in the recreation centre. The RCMP has been requested to patrol the facility on Friday nights if able, and additional security has been hired. The District is connecting with school and minor hockey leaders to help address the problem and work towards a positive solution.
