Restroom Facilities at Carke Terrace: Work to Begin Soon!

Construction of a sanitary facility is about to begin at Carke Terrace in the Bondville sector! Work will begin in early September, and will last approximately 18 weeks.

The building will feature men's and women's restrooms with changing rooms, lockers and outdoor showers. A green roof offering a magnificent view of our lake will be accessible to the public.

We can't wait to see the final result!

Another Addition to the Carke Terrace!

In addition to the future sanitary facilities, a dock has recently been installed on the Carke Terrace!

This structure allows users to launch their small non-motorized craft, such as paddleboards, kayaks, sailboards or canoes, for safe access to the lake.

Carke Terrace is located at 393 Bondville Street.

Happy navigation!

End of Season at Douglass Beach

As every year, the return to school of our lifeguard team, who have monitored the swimming area throughout the summer, marks the end of the swimming season.

The beach will therefore be open for one last day, on August 24, after which we'll have to say "See you next summer"!

Thank you to our lifeguards for a wonderful season! 🏖️

401 Knowlton Road Project: Register to Be Held

On August 5, elected officials adopted the Distinct Draft Project of the Specific Construction, Alteration or Occupancy Proposal for an Immovable (SCAOPI) at 401 Knowlton Road (Route 104) (lot 4 267 551), in the Knowlton sector.

This project is a proposed conversion of the former senior citizen home into 42 residential rental units.

A register will be kept for those eligible to vote in the zone in which the building is located, as well as the contiguous lots. It will allow people to request the approval of this SCAOPI by referendum.

The register will be held on Thursday, August 29 at the Town Hall.

The SCAOPI can be consulted at Town Hall during office hours, or by email at greffe@lacbrome.ca.

The public notice and the SCAOPI can be consulted by clicking here.

Are You Familiar With the what3words App?

Available on the App Store and Google Play, what3words is used by our 911 centre (CAUCA) to locate injured or lost people.

It allows you to provide your precise position using three words, within a 3-meter x 3-meter area. Emergency services are then much more efficient in their search.

How do they do it? what3words has divided the world map into 57 trillion squares, each of which is represented by three words. For example, one of the boxes in front of Town Hall is defined by the words projection, restrict and eroded.

Dear citizens and visitors, we invite you to install the app if you venture out into nature!

Raccoon Rabies: We Must Remain Vigilant!

Since March 2022, more than 30 cases of raccoon rabies have been detected in Vermont, near the Canada-U.S. border. A recent case in Swanton, also in Vermont, highlights the high risk of introducing the disease in Quebec.

The Quebec government is calling for vigilance, particularly in the Eastern Townships and Montérégie. Citizens are invited to report any raccoon, skunk or fox showing signs of rabies to 1-877-346-6763 or via Québec.ca/rageduratonlaveur.

Everyone's cooperation is essential to prevent this deadly disease, while vaccination operations are planned for 2024.

Rusty Crayfish

Brome Lake is invaded by several exotic invasive species, including the rusty crayfish. The population of this species can be reduced by consuming it. Popular in Louisiana, crayfish can be prepared in a variety of ways and is delicious.

For more information on catching rusty crayfish in Brome Lake, we invite you to view the following videos:

Clip 1 (in French)

Clip 2 (in French)

Conservation Lac Brome can lend you crayfish traps for a deposit of $20 per trap. You can make a request by email to info@conservationlb.com.

It is very important to follow the Quebec fishing regulations before catching crayfish. Note the following points, at the risk of being fined:

  1. A valid fishing permit is mandatory;
  2. The sale or purchase of fish (and crayfish) caught in Quebec is prohibited;
  3. It is forbidden to let fish fit for human consumption (including crayfish) that you have caught and kept spoil;
  4. Traps must be identified with your name and contact details;
  5. Crayfish must be transported only when dead;
  6. Crayfish may not be used as bait fish, even if dead.

A Step Forward for Biodiversity in Brome Lake

On July 2, the Town of Brome Lake's elected officials adopted a resolution aimed at preserving biodiversity on the territory.

Following the 15th Conference of the Parties (COP15) to the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Town expressed its desire to commit to living in harmony with nature and conserving biodiversity. The Town thus joined some fifty other signatories to the resolution in the Eastern Townships.

More specifically, the Town is committed to:

  • draw up a portrait of biodiversity on its territory and maintain regular monitoring;
  • take biodiversity conservation into account in its land-use planning to ensure that local and regional objectives for ecological connectivity and land protection are met;
  • participate in efforts to restore and protect ecosystems, prioritizing habitats for native and endangered species, forest environments of interest, wetlands and hydric environments, as well as nearby natural areas;
  • support projects to create protected areas on the territory;
  • ensure better control of invasive exotic species to limit their spread, through concerted action and awareness-raising;
  • promote access to natural environments;
  • mobilize partners and citizens to preserve biodiversity.
