  • Aug. 26-27: Move-in for Jump Start and Early Arrival students
  • Aug. 28 to Sept. 1: Jump Start orientation week
  • Sept. 3: Move-in Day for all other residents
  • Sept. 4: University closed for Labour Day
  • Sept. 4: Create orientation day
  • Sept. 5: Winter Session Term 1 begins for most faculties
  • Sept. 6: Tuition and fee deadline for most faculties

Calling all new students: Register for Create!

Create orientation day is an opportunity to meet peers in your faculty, learn about campus from upper-year students, hear from UBC leadership, and get connected to our campus community. Over 100 student clubs, partners, and organizations will be joining us, making this the perfect way to kick off your time at UBCO.

With an emphasis on building connections to the people, places, and resources that will support and shape your university experience, this free flagship orientation day is strongly recommended for all new-to-UBCO students. This year, Create is being held on Monday, September 4, and we hope to see you there!

Weeks of Welcome

Throughout September, UBCO will be hosting a variety of events including the UBCO Heat Homecoming soccer game on Nonis Field, the first B.A.R.K. session of the year, a campus-wide scavenger hunt, a speed-friending social, and many other ways to get involved and connected on campus.

Celebrate UBCO Homecoming on Sept. 22 and 23

Homecoming is the largest school spirit event of the year! Come out, wear your UBC gear, and enjoy a weekend full of activities with free food, drinks, games, and lots of prizes to be won.

Black Student Orientation

The purpose of Black Student Orientation is to create a space for incoming undergraduate and graduate Black students to start building community with each other, receive tips for transitioning to UBC, and connect with Black-identifying student groups. Current UBC Black students are welcome to join.

Join us at the BSS Kickback to build community, receive tips for transitioning to UBC, connect with Black-identifying student groups, and meet current Black community members. You can expect entertainment, lunch, discussions, and games.

Back to Basics

Fuzzy on physics? Muddled about math? Worried about plagiarism? The peers and pros from the Student Learning Hub are reviewing core concepts in math, physics, chemistry, and writing to help prepare you for university-level learning. Attend peer-facilitated review sessions to gain confidence in core concepts.

Sessions include: 

  • Readiness for University Math
  • Foundations of Physics
  • Chemistry Essentials
  • Academic Reading and Writing
  • Academic Integrity and Plagiarism

Sessions run September 1 from 12 to 3:30 pm

Faculty of Management: Welcome back breakfast

Management students are invited to attend the Faculty of Management’s Welcome Back Pancake Breakfast on September 7 from 9 to 11 am (or while supplies last). Breakfast will be held outdoors between the Administration and EME buildings. There will be pancakes (GF and vegan options), fruit, coffee, and tea available. Join us to connect with fellow students and faculty.

Receive your TEAL certificate while pursuing your undergraduate degree

Receive your Teaching English and Additional Languages (TEAL) post-baccalaureate certificate (12 credits) at UBCO! The certificate is designed to prepare students who are new to teaching and includes a practicum component. The certificate is open to students with a minimum third-year standing. Courses will take place online and on campus.

Explore resources and registration with the Disability Resource Centre

Do you know about the accessibility resources available to UBCO students?

The Disability Resource Centre (DRC) advances access and inclusion for disabled students in all aspects of university life. They work collaboratively with students to determine and facilitate reasonable accommodations while building relationships with campus and community partners to foster an inclusive university experience.

Registration with the DRC is required to receive accommodation. Students are encouraged to do so as early as possible to ensure that accommodations are in place for the beginning of term.

Nature awaits! Check out our campus trails

Did you know that nature can boost your immune system, improve sleep, and better your breathing? As summer comes to a close, take some time to explore the outdoors in the sunshine!

Kelowna has many great trails to explore and enjoy nature. If you’re looking for hikes close to UBCO, try out the Quail Flume Trail and Eagle View Loop which is located right beside campus. With a couple of weeks of summer left, take some time to explore the beautiful nature in the Okanagan.
