Your voice and input matters! Take our Downtown and tourism-based parking survey to help us understand the various needs and challenges with parking. Your input will directly influence the development of the District’s draft Parking Management Plan. The survey is available in multiple lanaguges and the deadline is January 15, 2025.

The survey includes questions specific to:

  • Downtown residents
  • Downtown business owners
  • Employees of Downtown businesses
  • Residents of SeaANDSky
  • The broader community and neighbouring areas

NEW YEAR'S EVE FIREWORKS PERMITS

Permit applications for New Year’s Eve fireworks are now open. The permit is free and can be applied for online in just a few minutes. Any person applying for a fireworks permit must be at least 19 years of age. Fireworks will only be permitted for use on private property with the owner’s signed consent.

Permits are only valid between 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 31, 2024, and 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 1, 2025.

Permit applications close on December 30. A map of the number of permits in each neighbourhood will be published on December 31.

CURBSIDE COLLECTION HOLIDAY SCHEDULE

Reminder: Curbside Collection Holiday Schedule Change 

Squamish residents who receive regular collection on New Year's Day, January 1 (garbage) will receive a rescheduled pickup on Saturday, January 4 (garbage).

LANDFILL TIPPING FEES

A number of the Squamish Landfill tipping fees will increase as of January 2, 2025, to help cover the continuing costs of upgrading the landfill and to encourage the diversion of waste to recycling and re-use.

Save on tipping fees by separating organics and recyclable materials from garbage prior to disposal.

More than 15 materials continue to be accepted for free recycling at the Landfill 
Recycling Depot and Transfer Station. These include cardboard, plastic bags, 
books, clothing, and white foam packaging.

BC TRANSIT HOLIDAY SERVICE

Please note BC Transit will be running the following modified hours over the holiday period:

  • December 31: Extended Regular Service. Free after 8 p.m.
  • January 1: Sunday Service

TOTE EXCHANGE AND SELECTION INFORMATION

Tote exchange and change requests deadlines below;

  • The deadline to add a new organic collection container for 2025, is January 31, 2025.
  • The deadline to increase the size of your recycling tote from a Medium to a Large, for 2025, is January 31, 2025.
  • The deadline to change the size of your garbage tote for 2026, is October 31, 2025.
  • The form must be completed once for each dwelling unit that receives service. If there are two suites in a house, the property owner must submit the form two times.

Change requests cannot be accepted by telephone. Only property owners, including landlords, can request a change. Your 2025 Utilities bill will reflect your new solid waste fee (based on the tote size change) and the $50 change fee.

All 2025 Business Licenses Renewal Notices have been mailed and must be renewed before December 31, 2024. Please note that Municipal Hall will be closed on January 1. Payment options include:

Online! Visit squamish.ca/payonline and use your Account Number and Access Code found on your renewal notice. If you do not have your Account Number or Access Code, email businesslicence@squamish.ca. Please allow 24-48 hours to receive the information.

In-person at Municipal Hall (37955 Second Avenue) or the Building Department in Municipal Hall, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday. Accepted payment methods: Visa, Mastercard, Debit, or cheque.

Please be advised that the District of Squamish no longer accepts credit card payments over the phone. We strongly recommend renewing your licence online at squamish.ca/online-services.

2025 DOG LICENCES

An account number is required in order to renew your licence. Account numbers are listed on your renewal notice. If you do not have your account number, please contact Community Bylaw Services at bylaw@squamish.ca.

Residents can renew their dog licences for a discounted fee before January 31. The January 31 discount date is set by bylaw and is the same date each year.

Dog licences may also be renewed in-person at Municipal Hall and the RCMP Detachment Front Counter (1000 Finch Drive) between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday.

OUTSTANDING UTILITIES AND PROPERTY TAXES

With a MyCity login, you can access your Property Taxes, Utilities, and Business Licence accounts. If you already have a Squamish Recreation Services program registration account, you can use the same login. Your folio number and access code required for registration can be found on your 2024 Property Tax Notice or Reminder Statement.

Log in to MyCity to:

  • View account information.
  • Sign up to receive invoices and notices by email.
  • View status of applications and milestones (including inspections in progress and pre-occupancy checklist detail).

Property owners are responsible for payment of utilities regardless of whether or not a notice is received. New owners should ensure utilities are paid on their property. If there is any doubt, please contact us.

Older, Wiser, Livelier, Seniors (O.W.L.S.)

O.W.L.S. is designed for seniors living with mental health challenges and/or cognitive decline, offering opportunities for social connection, gentle physical activity, and mental engagement. This VCH Mental Health and Substance Use Services program takes place at Westwinds every Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. For registration, contact 778.894.3200 and ask for Shannon.

Caregiver Support Group

Trained volunteers provide practical and emotional support for caregivers in a welcoming, group setting. Drop in to socialize and connect with others. Offered by Sea to Sky Hospice, this program runs at Westwinds on the last Tuesday of every month, 11:45 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.
