The first Council meeting of 2023 will take place Tuesday, January 10.

NEW YEAR'S EVE FIREWORKS PERMITS

The District of Squamish is now accepting fireworks permit applications for New Year’s Eve. The permit is free and can be applied for online in just a few minutes. Any person applying for a fireworks permit must be at least 19 years of age. Fireworks will only be permitted for use on private property with the owner’s signed consent.

Permits are only valid between 8 p.m. Saturday, December 31, 2022, and 12:30 a.m. Sunday, January 1, 2023.

Permit applications close on December 30. A map of the number of permits in each neighbourhood will be published at Squamish.ca/fireworks on December 31.

'Tis the season to renew your dog licence!

All dogs must be registered within 30 days of moving to Squamish and all dogs over eight weeks must be licensed.

Get your dog’s licence before January 31 to qualify for the discounted rate.

COMMUNITY NOTICES AND EVENTS

2023 Business Licence Renewals

The District is now accepting payments for 2023 business licences. All licences must be renewed before December 31, 2022. Please note Municipal Hall will be closed from December 26 through January 2, however, payment can be made before December 31 by cheque made payable to ‘District of Squamish’ and mailed to P.O. Box 310 Squamish, B.C. V8B 0A3 or left in the yellow dropbox at Municipal Hall front doors. 

Payment can still be made even If you have not received your renewal notice. Please be sure to note your business licence number on your cheque for our reference.

BC Transit Holiday Service

Please note BC Transit will be running the following modified hours over the holiday period:

» December 24: Regular Service.

» December 25-26: Sunday Service.

» December 27-30: Regular Service.

» December 31 Day: Saturday Service.

» December 31 Evening only: Free Service after 8 p.m.

» January 1: Sunday Service.

» January 2: Regular Service.

Need to dispose of your natural Christmas Tree?

🎄 Remove all tinsel and decorations and cut off all branches.

🎄 Cut the tree trunk to no longer than three feet and no more than three inches in diameter.

🎄 Ensure all pieces easily fit into the tote, allowing the lid to close and lock.

🎄Deliver to the Squamish Landfill as yard waste or put cuts into your organics tote for the week of December 26-30.

Red and Green Theme Public Skate

Saturday, December 24, 12 - 2:15 p.m.

It’s easy being Red and Green! Get creative and come dressed in wacky and wonderful combinations of our theme colours. Come and meet up with friends and socialize while skating in this fun environment. Skate patrols are on the ice to supervise and support skaters. No strollers on the ice during this time.

Holiday Camps

Weekdays, until December 30 (excluding Facility holiday closures)

Spend your days off from school with us this December 19 to December 30! Join us for creative indoor and outdoor activities at Brennan Park Recreation Centre at our all-day Holiday Camps. We'll be doing a variety of activities, games and sports. Children must be currently enrolled in Kindergarten or completed Kindergarten in order to attend.

Balance and Strength

Tuesdays, January 10 - 31

This program offers a low-intensity workout, paired with strength training using resistance bands, light weights and balance exercises. It also includes a cool down with floor work and stretching.

In this workshop, you will use your ideas, thoughts, dreams, and wishes to create a vision board for a new year. Have fun, be creative, and claim what you want for yourself with images, words, and colour. Embrace possibility with a personal, visual reminder of your goals. No art experience is needed to create an inspiring vision board. This workshop is intended for adults.

January 11, 6:30 - 8 p.m.

Do you have new financial goals for the year? Are you not sure where to start? Join the library and Hannah McVean for an evening of learning financial literacy from a pro. You’ll hear from Hannah about tax-free savings accounts, RRSPs, retirement planning and  taxes, and inflation and investing. There will be plenty of time for a Q&A so bring your questions!

Friends of the Library meeting

January 17, 12:30 p.m.

The Friends of the Library meet on the third Thursday of each month in the Library Community Room.

The primary purpose of the “Friends” is to contribute to the pleasant, welcoming atmosphere at the library and to encourage more people to enjoy what the library offers, thus making our Library a real “community” place.
