Mayor's Message

Mayor Steve Pellegrini

On behalf of King Township Council, welcome to the May edition of the King Bulletin.

Volunteer Appreciation Awards

I’d like to congratulate the recipients of our annual Volunteer Appreciation Awards, including this year’s Citizen of the Year, Ivan Rapa, for his special dedication, generosity and time given to the King United Soccer Club.

Nine other people were honoured for their positive contributions to King at a ceremony last week at the King Township Municipal Centre. Their selflessness and dedication to making our community a better place is truly commendable.

You can read more about the award recipients below.

Victoria Day fireworks

With Victoria Day fast approaching, I’d like to remind the community that fireworks can only be set off on Victoria Day, Canada Day and the third day of Diwali and they can’t be set off on public land, including parks or parking lots.

Instead of setting off your own, make a day of it and attend the Victoria Day celebrations in Nobleton on Monday, May 20.

The day will also feature a parade at 11 a.m. and a fair with live entertainment, food and retail vendors, and a midway with rides which runs from noon until around 9 p.m.

The day is capped with a spectacular fireworks show at dusk, presented by King Fire and Emergency Services.

Be sure to arrive early since parking and space fill quickly. Bring your own blankets and/or lawn chairs. The best spot to see the fireworks is behind the Nobleton Arena.

For more information, including the parade route, visit king.ca/nobletonvictoriaday.

Schomberg Agricultural Fair

Every May, Schomberg has played host to a colourful celebration of local agriculture, art and talent at the Schomberg Agricultural Fair. This year will be the 174th edition of the fair.

Come check out the agricultural and horticultural events, animal displays, homecraft competitions and the amusement rides at the Schomberg Fair. It runs from May 23 to May 26, right in the heart of downtown Schomberg.

For more information, including a complete schedule of events, visit schombergfair.com.

Please continue to volunteer, shop locally as much as you can and visit king.ca for the latest news on all things King.

Sincerely,

Mayor Steve Pellegrini

Volunteer Appreciation Awards

2024 Volunteer Appreciation Awards

King’s Volunteer Appreciation Awards are held each year around National Volunteer Appreciation Week.

Awards are given each year for the following categories: Citizen of the Year; Special Recognition; Special Recognition Non-resident; Senior Citizen Award of Merit; Lifetime Achievement; and Youth Award of Merit.

Ten award recipients were celebrated during an invitation-only ceremony for family and friends, held at the King Township Municipal Centre on Thursday, Apr. 25.

King's volunteers contribute to many successes, selflessly donating thousands of hours to many causes. Mayor Steve Pellegrini spoke about the importance of volunteering in the community before presenting each recipient with their award.

This year’s Citizen of the Year is Ivan Rapa. Nominated for his 13 years with the King United Soccer Club, Rapa's contributions to the community and the club have left a lasting impact.

For a full list of this year's recipients, including information on how each of them donates their time to make King a better place, visit king.ca/awardrecipients.
