AVIATOR EXPRESS # 789 - JANUARY 23, 2019

Since the 1930s, various pilot associations have sprung up in the province of Quebec. These informal groups, from different airports and hydrobases, were initially aimed at strengthening the links between pilots through various social activities. The Quebec Bush Pilots Association (APBQ) officially came into existence in 1979. But already in 1976, the seeds of what we know today as AVIATEURS.QUEBEC were sown.

At that time, a handful of pilots were meeting regularly in the hangar owned by the Lacombe family at Mascouche Airport. By necessity, the Association has changed. Embarrassed by the untimely interventions of Transport Canada inspectors, particularly with private pilots traveling to the Schefferville area for caribou hunting, they felt the need to intervene to normalize things. With this in mind, the APBQ was born on February 19, 1979. That day, dozens of pilots elected a new executive made up of Rhéal Clouet, president, Guy Racicot, vice-president and Claude Laplante, secretary. Their mandate was to meet with Transport Canada and to try to harmonize relations and that was done.

Throughout the years, the mandate of APBQ has grown ans as the membership, going from 36 in 1979 to 1400 in 2019.

Today, the association became "AVIATEURS.QUEBEC", intervenes at all levels to promote general aviation in Quebec, the safety of pilotage activities and defend the interests of all pilots in Quebec, without neglecting the social and educational activities.

AVIATORS.QUÉBEC SPONSORS OPENING A RUNWAY AT THE RVA COPA OF MONTEBELLO (25-27 JANUARY)

Pilots of aircraft on wheels, the weather looks promising for the weekend.

Aviateurs.Québec and COPA are waiting for you at RVA COPA in Montebello.

Indeed, in order to open this event to as many pilots as possible, Aviateurs.Québec is sponsoring the opening of a runway for aircraft on wheels.

Montebello is an hydrobase documented in the CFS under CSB6 west of the Château. The track has an approximate orientation 06-24, on ice and on snow. The decision to land is entirely that of the pilots. The conditions look good and the track will be cleared for wheel operations.

As indicated in the CFS, pilots must listen and broadcast their intentions on the published ATF of 123.20. Ground personnel will have radios to give notice only. Pilots are entirely responsible for avoiding other aircraft as well as the decision to land or not.

Signalers will be on site to assist with parking. Pilots are advised to bring their bindings, covers and holds.

Sockets for motor heaters. Adapters will be rented for those who wish ($ 25, all proceeds going to the Right to Fly Defense Fund) - available at the front desk. Pilots must bring their own extension.

You can warm up near the campfire, chat with other participating drivers while eating hot dogs.

All pilots flying to or from the 2019 Montebello event (January 25-27) are invited to stop at Lachute (CSE4) for the lowest gas prices in the region. For this event only, enjoy a discount of 6 cents per liter.
