Walking Through the Fire: A Visual Album – Film Screening and Q&A Friday, September 12 from 6- 9:30pm (NEW VENUE: Beaver Valley Community Centre 58 Alfred St. W. Thornbury) The Blue Mountains Public Library, in partnership with Beaver Valley Outreach and Amnesty International Group 82, invites the community to a screening of Walking Through the Fire, a visual album created by Sultans of String with First Nations, Métis, and Inuit artists. The 82-minute film explores truth, healing, and cultural relationship-building, responding to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action. After the screening, stay for a virtual Q&A with musician Chris McKhool and Elder Dr. Duke Redbird of the Saugeen Ojibway Nation. Refreshments will be served. Shore) We are proud to present an exhibition celebrating the life and work of the late Italian-Canadian artist Albert Chiarandini. Born in 1915 in northern Italy, Chiarandini immigrated to Toronto as a teen and studied at the Ontario College of Art. Over his lifetime, he created more than 3,000 works, including intimate portraits of Yorkville’s '60s hippie scene, as well as luminous rural landscapes. Join us for the grand opening to discover the work of this remarkable artist and hear from Rudy Chiarandini, Albert’s son. All are welcome. | | Indigenous Art Talk and the Red Visions Exhibition Saturday, September 6 at 11am (L.E. Shore Library) Join us for a special Art Talk in partnership with the Beaver Valley Fall Fair, Casa Loma, and Seeing Red Media. This event is part of the Red Visions exhibition, curated by Casa Loma in collaboration with Seeing Red Media, an Indigenous-owned media company from the Six Nations of the Grand River Territory. The talk will be led by an Indigenous artist (speaker TBD) whose work is featured in the exhibition. The Red Visions show will also be on display at the Fall Fair. Our local Master Gardeners will cover how to select, save, and store a variety of food and flower plant seeds as well as how to stratify seeds that need a cold period to germinate. And you can support the gardening community by donating some of your seeds back to the Library! Produced by Muckpaloo Ipeelie, Voices highlights stories from Indigenous leaders and community members, exploring how the past continues to shape the present. It asks important questions about partnership, patience, and finding common ground. Following the screening, Muckpaloo will share insights on Inuit culture and guide discussion on the film’s themes. This is an opportunity to listen, learn, and reflect on how Indigenous voices light the path to a more inclusive future.
