City of Kimberley Reaches Collective Agreement with United Steelworkers Union
The City of Kimberley is pleased to announce the successful negotiation of a comprehensive four-year collective agreement with the United Steelworkers Union Local 1-405. This milestone marks a significant achievement in fostering positive labour relations and ensuring the continued success of our community.
The agreement, ratified on May 13th, replaces the previous agreement, which expired on February 29th, 2024. It underscores both parties' commitment to timely and constructive negotiations. Over the four-year agreement, all classifications of unionized employees will receive wage adjustments of 5.5%, 4.5%, 4.0%, and 3.0%. Other items of note include health spending and vacation improvements.
CAO Jim Hendricks expressed his gratitude upon completing negotiations. He stated, "The City of Kimberley extends its heartfelt appreciation to the United Steelworkers and all our employees for their dedication to Kimberley’s residents. This collective effort highlights our shared commitment to providing exceptional service and enhancing the quality of life in our vibrant community."
Mayor Don McCormick, in recognition of the diligent efforts of the bargaining teams, stated, "On behalf of City Council, I’d like to extend my sincere thanks to the respective bargaining teams for their commitment to productive negotiations." He further added, “These increases reflect the inflationary challenges experienced by communities throughout BC and the rest of the country. It was important to balance fairness and affordability, and we believe this agreement reflects that.”
With this agreement in place, City Council and staff reaffirm their shared commitment to serving Kimberley residents.kimberl
