It will also plan for future growth and consider bigger-picture outcomes such as emissions, community and individual health, neighbourhood connectivity, transportation choice, and equity. The Transportation Master Plan will consider all modes of transportation, such as walking, cycling, rolling (i.e. skateboard/scooter), taking the bus, driving a car, and commercial transportation.

CAUTION STILL REQUIRED AS SQUAMISH ESTUARY TRAIL RE-OPENS

The Conservation Officer Service (COS) has reopened the Squamish Estuary trail network (Wildlife Management Area) following a two-week closure to protect both the public and a sow and her yearling foraging in the area.

The trail network was initially closed following two separate surprise attacks involving individuals and the bears on Thursday, November 3. No further activity or conflicts have been reported since the closure.

RECYCLING SAFETY TIP

Do you know how to safely dispose of hazardous materials like lighters, lithium-ion batteries, or old laptop batteries? First and foremost, do not put these materials in your recycling tote. Disposing of hazardous materials can cause explosions and fires at material recovery facilities and in collection vehicles. Our curbside collection does not accept materials like bear spray, ammunition, lighters, helium tanks, lithium-ion, or household batteries. Read warning labels and be mindful of not-accepted materials.

Free Movie Screening: SCRAP

Join us for this FREE community movie screening of SCRAP – a documentary film by Stacey Tenenbaum. Discover the vast and strangely beautiful places where things go to die and meet the people who collect, restore, and recycle the world's scrap. SCRAP scratches beneath flaking paint and rusting metal to reveal the beauty and pathos in the ugliness we leave behind.

Snacks and non-alcoholic beverages will be provided. A donation box will be available at the screening with all proceeds going to the local not-for-profit Squamish ReBuild. This organization is currently looking for new leadership and transition funding, and the Squamish ReBuild team will join us for this movie screening. Find out more about Squamish ReBuild’s plans here.

Squamish Rebuild seeks help in finding new ownership

Squamish ReBuild has played an important part in our circular economy since 2011, extending the life of our landfill, giving a second life to materials, and providing building materials at a low cost for the community. They are currently issuing an SOS to the community in the hopes that a local organization, business, or group of individuals is willing to step in and take over the not-for-profit and return it to a financially sustainable venture.

Those interested in helping to save the business are asked to contact them at inis@squamishrebuild.ca.
