Highlights from the Thompson-Nicola Regional District Board of Directors Meeting of May 5, 2022


The TNRD Board of Directors held its regular Board Meeting in the Twin Rivers boardroom of the TNRD Civic Building in Kamloops. The meeting was held via Zoom and in-person. The meeting was recorded and uploaded to the TNRD’s YouTube channel. View the recording here.

Delegation: KPMG

The Board received a presentation from Brent Ashby, partner at KPMG Kamloops, on the annual Audited Financial Statements. Following the presentation, the Board approved the 2021 Audited Financial Statements, which is an annual legislative requirement. Read the report here.

Flood and Fire Season Preparedness

The Board received a presentation from Jason Tomlin, Manager of Fire Protection Services, and Kevin Skrepnek, Emergency Program Coordinator. Tomlin updated the Board on training for TNRD volunteer fire departments, education initiatives to residents about fire protection, and that work has begun towards hiring for the position of Fire Department Training Officer & FireSmart Coordinator. Skrepnek updated the Board on the flood and fire seasonal outlooks, emergency preparedness at the TNRD, ongoing operations related to previous emergencies, and highlights of an After Action Review of 2021 wildfires with the Province of BC and other jurisdictions.

Hours of Operation Changes to Several Solid Waste Facilities

The Board approved changes to hours of operation at several TNRD solid waste management facilities, which will be implemented by December 31, 2022. The changes were proposed following a comprehensive review of hours of operation for solid waste facilities, which included a public survey in 2021. Changes to hours of operation will be implemented at facilities in 70 Mile House, Cache Creek, Heffley Creek, Lac Le Jeune, Loon Lake, Louis Creek, Paul Lake and Savona. Read the report here.

Canada Community Building Fund

The Board approved allocating $3,500 from the federal Canada Community Building Fund, to fund safety upgrades to the deck and railing of the warming hut at Barriere Forks Park, located at 3012 Barriere Lakes Rd. The park is owned by the TNRD. Read the report here.
