Message from

CEO Tsekonámus

Rosemary Stager-Wallace

The last two months has been a very busy time at the Líl̓wat Business Group as we prepare to start building Tseqwtsúqum (Chek-choo-koom) at Function Junction in Whistler, reestablishing our presence on our traditional territory. It’s also been a time of positive change and growth at LBG. As we go to "press" with this newsletter, some of these changes are still in the works but will be announced as soon as they are completed.

Since our last newsletter, we have seen two key members from our staff at Tsípun Market move on. Store Operations Manager Mavis Pascal is moving into a new position with the Nation. While I am sad to lose Mavis, I am very happy for our Nation that will continue to benefit from her strong management, commitment, and enthusiasm in her new role as Community Programs Manager. Our grocery store will also feel the loss of Janet Dan. Janet retired on June 30 after working with Líl̓wat Retail Operations in a variety of roles for the past 19 years.

I offer my heartfelt thanks and congratulations to these two remarkable women who gave so much to Líl̓wat Business Group.

I continue to be extremely proud of the work our General Managers and managers have been doing. Each of our most established divisions, Construction Enterprises, Forestry Ventures and Retail Operations are doing will, entertaining new projects, entering excellent partnerships and contributing to the economic wellbeing of our Nation.

The purchase of The Hitching Post Motel earlier this year marked Líl̓wat Business Group’s entry into the tourism sector. This new venture is proving to be a success with strong bookings and positive reviews. One of the things the motel is becoming known for is “friendliness”—thanks Graham, Melanie and the Hitching Post Motel team for all your hard work!

We look forward to keeping you informed through K̓wezúsem and other communications delivered to your inbox.

Kúkwstum̓ckál̓ap,

Tsekonámus Rosemary Stager-Wallace, CEO

Congratulations to Janet Dan

Long-serving Tsípun staff member retires

On June 30, Líl̓wat Retail Operations celebrated the retirement of longterm employee Janet Dan.

Janet conistently demontrated her commitment to hard work and her dedication to LRO over the 19 years she worked with us. Many of those years were spent working at Tsípun Supermarket.

Building Unity, Structuring Success

Five major projects underway and a new merger at LCE

Líl̓wat Construction Enterprises (LCE), a proud member of the Líl̓wat Business Group, continues to drive forward key projects and partnerships that are shaping the future of our Nation and surrounding communities.

Tseqwtsúqum
at Function Junction

Significant progress is underway at the Tseqwtsúqum (Chek-choo-koom) at Function Junction project in Whistler. We are actively working through the rezoning phase to create more flexible and attractive leasing opportunities for the planned three-building commercial residential development and gas station. This important step will open doors for long-term economic benefit and growth in a high-demand area.

Pemberton Highways Yard

The Pemberton Highways Yard project remains in the early design and planning stages. With thoughtful planning underway, this five-building mixed-use development will enhance local infrastructure and create new opportunities for our members and partners.

Community s7ístken

Community feedback continues to guide the Community s7ístken (Gathering Place) project in Líl̓wat. Engagement sessions have been ongoing, with strong and meaningful input helping to shape the vision of this vital cultural and gathering space.

New Lílwat Business Group
Head Office Building

We’re also laying the foundation for the future. Initial designs are underway for the new Líl̓wat Business

Group Head Office, a key step in centralizing operations and supporting our continued growth.

NKWÚKWMA
Bench Lands Development

Our long-term vision remains strong. The NKWÚKWMA Bench Lands Development—a multi-phase project that will bring 450 new house lots to the Pemberton Valley over 20-25 years—is progressing steadily, guiding the future of housing and community development.

Grizzlies Concrete Merger

We’re excited to share that Pemberton Concrete is in full-swing this summer, with high production and delivery activity supporting a range of regional projects. Even more exciting, LCE has officially merged with Mt Currie’s Grizzlies Concrete—this is a powerful partnership that strengthens our team and expands our capacity. The Grizzlies have hit the ground running, and we’re confident this addition to LCE will deliver long-term value to our business and the community.

LCE remains committed to growth, innovation, and meaningful community impact. We look forward to continuing this journey together and will keep sharing updates as we build a stronger future for Líl̓wat and beyond.

Growing Stronger Forests Together

Engaged in forestry projects desigbed to create a safer Nation

We’re excited to share the latest updates from Líl̓wat Forestry Venture, highlighting the incredible work our crews are doing to protect and care for Líl̓wat forests and territory this wildfire season.

Fighting Fires,
Protecting Líl̓wat Territory

Wildland firefighting is a key service LFV provides to help protect the forests of Líl̓wat and BC from the increasing threats of climate change and the catastrophic wildfires. Our crews are on the front lines of climate resilience—keeping our lands and people safer.

  • Our Indigenous Initial Attack Crew of four trained Líl̓wat members began work in early July, partnering directly with BC Wildfire Service to respond to any potential fires right here in Líl̓wat territory.
  • In addition, two of our Type II four-person fire crews have already deployed to support wildfire efforts in both Squamish and Fort St. John this season.

Building Skills
& Sharing Knowledge

Training is a big part of what we do. So far this year, LFV has delivered:

  • S100 & S185 wildfire safety courses
  • Danger Tree Assessor training
  • Silviculture surveying skills
  • First aid certifications
  • Cultural burn preparation & ignition practices

Stewarding the Land

LFV crews are also working hard on a variety of land stewardship activities:

  • Brushing LFV forest blocks to keep young trees healthy and vigorous.
  • Old-growth assessments to study, assess the health of and protect the old-growth Líl̓wat forest values.
  • Regeneration surveys on harvested blocks to ensure future forest health.
  • Transmission line slashing & Certified Utility Arborist work for BC Hydro, helping reduce the vegetation levels near the BC Hydro lines and reduce fire risks.

Creating Fire-Resilient Forests

We’ve been removing hazardous trees and thinning stands to reduce wildfire risk in key areas:

  • Ryan River area
  • Woodlot 49 near Owl Ridge
  • IR 6, below the Xet̓ólacw community

We’re proud of the dedication and strength our teams show each day in the field—and proud to share this journey with you.

Thank you for supporting Líl̓wat Forestry Ventures. Together, we’re building healthier forests and stronger futures.

You can keep up with what's happening at Líl̓wat Forestry News.
