IBioS hosted its inaugural sessions at the NACCB last week. We started with an interactive workshop on "Going Beyond the Academy - how can we make our science count for conservation?". About 30 conference attendees joined the discussion on the meaning, challenges, and opportunities for bringing forward inclusive, interdisciplinary, and/or solutions-oriented conservation.
Later in the evening, the Plenary & Reception on "Critical Ecosystems vs. Critical Minerals?" about 150 listeners followed the discussion moderated by Naomi Klein on the impact of mining on local communities and ecosystems in Chile and Yellowknife.
On Wednesday, IBioS Student Fellow Rapichan (Ta) Phurisamban hosted the Panel Discussion "Building Decolonial Futures at the Confluence of Mae Nam Khong (Mekong) and Salish Waters", which attracted about 40 people to the Beaty Biodiversity Museum. It was a great way for IBioS to make our international debut!
