Highlights from the Thompson-Nicola Regional District Board of Directors’ Meeting of November 19, 2020


The TNRD Board of Directors held a Public Hearing and its regular Board Meeting in-person at the Valley First Lounge of the Sandman Centre in Kamloops with social distancing guidelines and safe meeting protocols in place. Board Chair, Vice-Chair Re-elected to Positions

Board Chair Ken Gillis and Vice-Chair Bill Kershaw were returned to their respective positions in a vote by the Board. Each year at the inaugural meeting, the TNRD Board of Directors elects one of its members as Chair and another as Vice Chair for the coming year. Read the report here.

Zoning Amendment Bylaw 2719

Zoning Amendment Bylaw 2719 received third reading and adoption proceeding a Public Hearing, with an amendment to remove a provision of the bylaw regarding Rivershore. Potential rezoning of property in Rivershore has been deferred and will be addressed in a separate zoning amendment bylaw that will be brought to a Public Hearing at a future date.

Bylaw 2719, as amended, puts into effect requirements brought forth by elected officials and Planning staff as well as minor clarifications and concordance to BC legislation. The recommended amendments in Bylaw 2719 will result in a better, clearer Zoning Bylaw and reduced risk. Read the report here.

Wells Grey Search and Rescue Funding

The Board approved a grant request to fund equipment and training for Wells Gray Search and Rescue (SAR) in the amount of $29,644.29. Since 2007, the TNRD has provided a funding mechanism to participating SAR groups to obtain capital funds for projects that they consider a priority. Read the report here.

Gas Tax Funds

The Board approved the following requests for Federal Gas Tax Funds:

2021 Provisional Financial Plan

The Director of Finance provided the Board with an analysis of the draft 2021-2025 Provisional Financial Plan. The report was provided to serve as a basis for discussion regarding taxation strategy for the Board members, and includes the addition of a COVID-19 pandemic lens which has introduced a new level of uncertainty for the TNRD and for our community members.
