Alumni leaders inspire an entrepreneurial mindset at the 2023 BCIT Alumni Associaton AGM 

On June 15, 2023, more than 110 attendees gathered virtually for the 2023 Online Annual General Meeting and special alumni panel presentation, Engage Your Entrepreneurial Mindset.

BCIT Alumni Association President Emil Bosnjak welcomed attendees from across the BCIT community including alumni, current and past Alumni Association directors and presidents, the BCIT Leadership Team, the BCIT Foundation, and BCIT students. Exciting BCIT developments made possible by the INSPIRE Campaign were also highlighted during the event, along with the Alumni Association’s accomplishments.

The special alumni panel presentation—Engage Your Entrepreneurial Mindset—inspired the audience and featured Orene Askew, DJ and Change Maker; Olivia Lovenmark, Founder, Duchess Cocktails and Co-founder, Repose; and Ryan Benn, CEO and Group Publisher, Alive Publishing Group Inc. and Canada Wide Media.

Celebrating our newest alumni at the Spring 2023 Convocation

Our newest alumni crossed the stage in five in-person ceremonies this June, joining more than 200,000 of the BCIT alumni community. We are proud of our graduates for their achievements, and confident in their abilities to create sustained and meaningful impact beyond BCIT. Our grads heard from representatives of the Alumni Association at the end of each ceremony and received their alumni pin on stage. Read more.

 

BCIT unveils new Beedie Plaza: enhancing campus experience 

BCIT and the Beedie Foundation announced the opening of the new Beedie Plaza at BCIT’s Burnaby Campus. Made possible by a $5 million donation from the Beedie Foundation and led by Ryan and Cindy Beedie, the plaza is the new landmark gateway to the BCIT Burnaby Campus. The plaza offers outdoor space where students can connect, study, or collaborate, and helps make the campus more pedestrian friendly. Read more.

BCIT alumna and instructor finds a second home in the classroom

Nav Padda shared her unique story, her career journey, personal hardships, and how she found a new passion in the classroom. She credits her success to BCIT and its strong hands-on learning approach and mentorship, which helped her launch a career at Surrey Memorial Hospital and now at BCIT. She’s the youngest faculty member teaching Specialty Nursing at the BCIT School of Health Sciences and is a mentor to nurses. Read more.

In recognition of BCIT alumni mothers and all that they do, we shared the advice and inspiring stories of three alumni moms who are excelling in their careers. These alums working in construction, real estate, and business, demonstrate that the skills required to succeed at BCIT—including time management, collaboration, and commitment—are just as transferrable to the workplace as they are to parenting. Read more.

Ecological restoration alum looks to Indigenous land stewardship with hope for the future

“It’s a real honour to work with the Tsleil-Waututh Nation to achieve their goals of stewardship of the land,” says Erin Rutherford, Ecosystem Services Manager at Inlailawatash. “I get to restore ecosystems and protect vulnerable species.
