Delta Archives

What is the Delta Archives?

The Delta Archives is the repository for preserving Delta’s documentary heritage. In addition to family collections of photos and historic records, we also collect key records for the municipal government (minutes, agenda packages, bylaws) as well as newspaper issues of the Delta Optimist and others on microfilm.

The Delta Archives has one of the largest oral history collections in the Lower Mainland, all of which has been digitized, viewable on our search database archivesmuseum.delta.ca.

The Archives also includes a Library and Reference Room, open 7 days a week. Visitors and researchers can access numerous books, obituaries, and photocopied clippings relevant to numerous historical topics.

The Archives is located within the Douglas J. Husband Discovery Centre, at 4450 Clarence Taylor Crescent.

Archive Updates

The Delta Archives has been very busy these past few months. We recently conducted oral history interviews with community members, including Ron Wasik and the late Len Osterlind of the Boundary Bay Sea Scouts, Karoline Cullen and Carlene Lewall of Delta Gymnastics Society, and Connie Munro of the pioneer Person family. More oral histories are expected in the coming months. Each interview enriches Delta’s historical narrative.

Numerous fonds have been described into our online database recently including the Tony and Lucy Schmand Variety Farm Training Centre Fonds, the Andrew and Caroline Olson Family Fonds, the Olaf and Serianna Stokkeland Fonds, the Thomas and Sadie Husband Family Fonds, the Gary Cullen Fonds, and many more. Many of these include photographs, so please take a look through them in the database and learn a little bit more about our community’s history.

The Delta Archives also published an article in the Archives Association of British Columbia (AABC) newsletter. This article discusses the importance of family history fonds and the work done on the Wright and Mitchell family photos earlier in the year. Please read of it online: https://aabc.ca/AABC-Newsletter.
