Membership Renewal Information

Dear VMQG members,

It's membership renewal time - and your Executive wanted to update you on some changes we are making in our meetings in 2023. Our intention is to provide you with this so you can make an informed decision about your membership with VMQG.

You may recall that we surveyed our members earlier this year to better understand what people wanted in terms of meetings. Specifically, we asked people if they wanted to meet in person, on Zoom or a combination. Over 60% of you indicated that you wanted a combination of in-person and Zoom meetings, assuming we abide by any and all BC public health orders.

As well, we received feedback that members highly valued meeting in person and building community with fellow modern quilters. They missed the connections, the swaps, the various activities like Block Lotto and Round Robin. At the same time, people liked the flexibility of Zoom, especially during the winter when the weather can be rainy and the dark comes early.

Thank you all for providing this feedback. The Executive worked with these results to develop a 2023 meeting schedule that tries to accommodate your requests, as well as give the Executive a break in August, when attendance has typically been very low. After much discussion, we also made the decision to not continue with hybrid meetings, which created logistical and participatory problems.

The Executive agreed to the following schedule for meetings in 2023:

  • We will have 11 meetings in 2023.
  • There will be no meeting in August.
  • There will be 9 in-person only meetings from March to December. These will, of course, abide by any and all public health orders; the July meeting will continue to be outdoors.
  • There will be 2 Zoom only meetings in January & February.

We hope that this gives you the information you need to make a decision about your membership with VMQG.

Thank you again for your survey feedback. Please reach out to any member of the Executive if you have any questions.
