CAREGIVING AROUND THE WORLD

Natural caregiver, informal caregiver, or simply caregiver or carer, no matter what you call them, one thing remains the same - their dedication to their loved ones. From willingness to investment, small victories and disappointments, caregivers around the world have many things in common and also some unique characteristics.

Did you know that Sweden – always a leader in social policies – is the only country that has included the right to live at home in its laws? Less surprising, Japan will soon become the first “super-aged” society on the planet with 28% of its citizens over 65. Finally, Belgium will give official status to caregivers. Caregiving is in the spotlight around the world as shown by these three examples.

DID YOU KNOW? Documentary: La Parole contre l'oubli

Available in French on tou.tv, the documentary on Alzheimer’s disease - La Parole contre l’oubli - shows the daily life of people with Alzheimer’s disease or cognitive impairments.

TURNING TO THE PROFESSIONALS FOR HELP COPING WITH YOUR LOVED ONE'S LOSS OF AUTONOMY (Part 1)

Loss of autonomy is defined as the inability of a person to perform certain daily tasks on their own, such as cooking, washing or driving. This incapacity is caused by the progressive decline in physical (fatigue, falls, incontinence, etc.), cognitive (memory, attention, confusion, etc.) or social (isolation) functioning.

It is not unusual, as a caregiver, for you to accompany your elderly loved one with loss of autonomy to their medical appointments. WHO WE ARE

Founded in 2009, L’Appui pour les proches aidants d’aînés strives to improve the quality of life of caregivers of seniors, lighten their daily workload and ensure that they take full advantage of the resources at their disposal.

We have a strong presence throughout Quebec, thanks to 17 regional Appui offices and a specific agreement for the Cree Territory of James Bay. Each regional office supports local organizations promoting caregivers’ well-being and providing services adapted to their needs.

Each region manages its own fund and invests in a variety of direct services for caregivers of older adults.
