To celebrate this milestone, we are hosting a symposium consisting of:
ZGSA's Debbie and Justin Wragg-Schmidt Zoology Spring Symposium graduate students presentations plus two additional days of speakers nominated by the members of our major research and teaching clusters.

Stella Lee has accepted the Assistant Professor of Teaching in Physiology position in our department. Stella is currently a lecturer in Zoology and will officially start her new role in July 2024.

Farewell and THANK YOU to Mahsa Zolghadriha, zoology's administrative assistant, who will be leaving Zoology to take up a new role as ISC Support Specialist.

Her last day is TODAY, January 5th.

  • January Awards Competition additional information - deadline: January 15

    Notes for current student applicants:
    • You must be a current student registered in the MSc or PhD Zoology program in 2023W to be eligible for the department recommended awards (the non-4YF & ZGF awards); each award also has their own eligibility criteria noted on the application form
    • You must be a current student registered in, or planning to transfer into the MSc or PhD Zoology program in 2024W, to be eligible for the 4YF and ZGF (note: the 4YF has specific eligibility criteria)
    • You do not have to attach your transcripts. If I don’t have your transcript, I will contact you directly for it
    • Please arrange for your 2 reference letters to be sent to zool.gradprgm@ubc.ca directly from the referee

  • in/relation: supporting new learners to Indigenous topics at UBC: on November 23rd the Indigenous Initiatives team hosted the launch for the in/relation project. The project is an educational resource for instructors, staff and students at UBC who are:
    1. Interested in exploring Indigenous histories and contexts at UBC with others who are fairly new to these topics—and
    2. Non-experts on Indigenous topics themselves
