Safety Capsule: Maintenance of an Amateur-Built or Owner-Maintenance Category Aircraft

On September 23, 2022, at approximately 8:30 a.m.  (local time) , the amateur-built seaplane Wag-Aero Sportsman 2+2 (registration C-FFDA, serial number 792), with the pilot and a passenger on board, took off from Lake Mylène, located 12 nautical miles west of Rivière Bonnard aerodrome (CRB4) (Quebec), for a local flight under visual flight rules.

Approximately 4 nautical miles south of Lake Mylene, the seaplane's left wing separated completely, causing the seaplane to descend uncontrolled and then strike terrain. The 2 occupants were fatally injured. The seaplane was destroyed by the force of the impact. No fire broke out. The 406 MHz emergency locator beacon activated and the Cospas-Sarsat satellite search and rescue system picked up the signal at 8:46 a.m.

We invite you to consult TSB report A22Q0116  for more information.

Aviateurs.Québec organizes a humanitarian mission in Saint-Alexis-des-Monts

Last Wednesday, Aviateurs.Québec received a call for help from the organization La Maison de l'Abondance in Saint-Alexis-des-Monts. The call came from a resident of the municipality, Michel Cordeau - Transport Canada inspector and a contributor to Aviateurs.Québec. He explained to us that the municipality was isolated from the rest of the world due to the closure of Route 349 and that the Maison de l'Abondance was not able to have the food delivered on which more than 80 families in the region depend. Aviateurs.Québec responded yes to the call for help and with the collaboration of Yves Le Roux (Passport Helico) quickly organized an airlift to Saint-Alexis-des-Monts. On Thursday, May 4, more than 1,500 kilos of food were transported and delivered to La Maison de l'Abondance via a Passport Hélico helicopter. We are proud to have been able to help relieve the distress of 82 families.

We want to thank Yves Le Roux from Passport Hélico who did not hesitate to join us and offer his resources, Michel Cordeau who insured the coordination and Simon Allaire, deputy of Maskinongé, who offered a financial support. Thank you all.
