We acknowledge that we live, learn and work on the unceded territory of the Sc'ianew (Beecher Bay) First Nation. | eNEWS 2024 | November/December | Historic Landing Ceremony and the Changing Tide of Education For the first time in Pearson College's 50-year history, a welcoming and landing ceremony took place involving the Chief and Council of Sc'ianew First Nation, neighbouring Nations and our Climate Action Leadership Diploma (CALD) students. The ceremony's purpose was to formally ask permission, using Sc'ianew protocols, to come ashore and share in the Coast Salish teachings of land and water that our students will engage with throughout the term. The video of this historic event was premiered at a Village gathering for our school community and will be used as a teaching tool for current and future students and staff. The full video can be watched here. | Make a Tribute Gift in Honour of Carrie and Others Who Inspire Pearson’s Mission It’s people like Carrie Moir and her family who have (in this case, quite literally!) shaped Pearson College into what it is today. The College and the Union agreed to accept the recommendation and we are currently engaged in discussions about the timing of this process, as well as the selection of the mediator/arbitrator. Perhaps the most impactful element of this decision is that the LRB has ordered mediation/arbitration, which means that no strike will occur, effectively ensuring that there will be no disruption to student learning, programming, or care as a result of this process. We will provide further updates as needed. As always, we thank you for your understanding and continued support of our Pearson community. | Canada Post Update Due to the ongoing Canada Post strike, mail delivery across Canada and internationally may be delayed.
