Across the province, staff and patients participated in emergency preparedness activities for the month of May. BC Renal is pleased to share a few pictures and to thank everyone who took part in this valuable education. We hope that patients and caregivers alike will feel better prepared as we head into wildfire season!

Key resources and reminders

As we come to the beginning of summer, it’s important to remain aware of the potential impact of wildfires, and to make sure we’re taking steps to stay prepared. As we've highlighted throughout the month, BC Renal and the BC Government have several useful tools and resources to help with planning ahead for various emergencies. Below are a few that we feel are the most valuable:

BC Government:

Remember:

  • Patients: Ensure that your unit knows of any changes of address or notices that might need to be taken into account should you live in an evacuation area - i.e. info related to pets, or what family members/residences you may visit outside the region.
  • Health Professionals: Review the BC Renal processes for emergencies and ensure that your patient information is as up to date as possible.

We can all play a part in fire prevention by taking steps at home and while exploring the province this summer. To learn more about how to minimize the threat of wildfires and preserve our beautiful province, check out FireSmart by the BC Government.
