Hydro Mobile - Elevating Efficiency

These technical notices require immediate attention. Failure to read these technical notices and to take immediate steps to comply with their recommendations may lead to serious injury or possibly death.

Following the Technical Notice HMT-0175-00-E, released July 2016, detailing the requirement for ALL owners of Hydro Mobile M Series bridges over 10 years old to carry out an immediate visual inspection, more Technical Notices have been released to assist equipment owners in the inspection of all bridges 10 years old or older, and identification of bridges which should immediately be repaired or taken permanently out of service.

HMT-0174-00-E

The intent of this procedure is to offer guidelines and a method to perform repairs on M2 Series old style bridges that show damages or deterioration by corrosion on the bottom chords of the bridge structure.

The general condition of the bridge must be assessed prior to replacing the bottom chords as other structural components might be compromised and repair of the structure might not be possible.

Any other structural repair needed to be performed on other components of the bridge structure to preserve its integrity are not covered by this document.

HMT-0175-00-E

Hydro Mobile bridges are designed to be the most robust platforms on the market and as such, perform successfully over extended periods of operational time. It is however imperative to monitor their condition.

As part of an ongoing effort to verify equipment condition and guarantee safety in the field, Hydro Mobile requires that all bridges 10 years old or more be immediately submitted to a proper visual inspection.

Use the list included in the following pages as a guide to identify any bridge requiring immediate inspection.

HMT-0176-00-E

Details the immediate requirement for inspecting the wall thickness in critical bridge assembly components.

THIS INSPECTION REQUIREMENT IS MANDATORY ON ALL BRIDGES WHICH ARE 10 YEARS OLD OR OLDER (see HMT-0175-00-E for serial number identification).

This inspection requires assessment by a trained, qualified person (see HMT-0176-00-E for further information) through Non-Destructive Testing (NDT), of the integrity of these critical components.

HMT-0177-00-E

Details a ‘clamp test’ for assessing severely deteriorated wall thickness in those critical bridge assembly components, ONLY in order to identify those bridges which require to be permanently removed from service, or immediately repaired under the auspices of HMT-0174-00-E.

This test is NOT a method for assessing the viability of a bridge for continued operation, rather it is a method for identifying bridges which are so obviously damaged that NDT is not necessary to highlight the fact that they should be immediately removed from service.

DUTY OF CARE

It is the responsibility of the equipment owner to make sure that the inspection procedure is carried out by qualified personnel and according to the recommended inspection schedule, and that inspection records are kept. This "duty of care" is clearly underlined under OSHA, ANSI A92.9 and the Hydro Mobile owner's manuals.
