Safety capsule: Do you know the Transport Canada Feedback site -  Canadian aviation service difficulty reports?

Feedback is a Transport Canada communication aimed at raising safety awareness for the aviation community.

Articles contained in Feedback are derived from Service Difficulty Reports (SDRs) submitted by aircraft maintenance technicians (AMEs), owners, operators and other sources in accordance with the Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs). ) 521.

For example, we recently learned of a possible failure in the interior mounting bracket of the rudder pedal on a DA 20 A1. Such a failure could result in blocking the movement of the rudder.

This recent example is on a Diamond DA20, but there are also others on other aircraft models such as Cessna, Piper and also on engines, propellers and on-board equipment.

Whether you are a pilot or a technician, this is a reference that should interest you.

You can consult the site and subscribe to it by clicking on the following link:

Advisory Circular 500-004 edition 02 - External loads on a fixed-wing aircraft - approval process

Transport Canada has published Advisory circular 500-004 Edition 02. The purpose of this document is to provide guidance on the process for obtaining an external load approval on small aeroplanes in the Normal category. It specifically applies to single engine floatplanes. This material applies to both private and commercial air operators. This AC does not provide guidance on "specialty" external loads such as towed or slung loads.

The first Fly-In of the year took place in Saint-Anne du Lac last week-end

The first Fly-In of the year took place in Saint-Anne du Lac last week-end

Good weather a little chilly with a little wind directly in the axis of runway 03 (75' wide by 2650' long, "tapped" snow). A little more than twenty planes, on skis, skis/wheels and wheels showed up for the occasion.

Congratulations to the organizers and volunteers who year after year organize this Fly-In. Congratulations also to the many pilots who braved the cold to find a little human warmth in Saint-Anne du Lac.

We have a few links you can explore to see more photos of this Fly-In..

NAV Canada: February 28 CFPS replaces the AWWS platform

Today, February 28, the AWWS platform was disconnected. It is now replaced by a new CFPS platform.

It is true that any change in our habits is difficult to accept. It is now a common thing in our lives with computer software, applications on our phones, tablets etc... But, most of the time, it is for the best. Let's be positive.

A quick tour of the platform reveals a more user-friendly interface and easier access to several features. This bodes well.

To access this portal, click on the following image

To help you get to grips with this new platform, NAV Canada has posted a few videos that guide you in using CFPS.

Happy 100th anniversary to Mr Adrien Vallières, pilot of CF-RCK

Remember the CF-RCK show? This Quebec children's show from the 60s that tells the adventures and misadventures of the owners of a Cessna Model 180 registered CF-RCK?

We dedicate this short text to Adrien Vallières, the real pilot behind this Cessna, who is celebrating his 100th birthday on February 29, 2024. This seasoned pilot learned to fly after the war and earned his living as a bush pilot, notably for Wheeler Airlines in St Jovite.

He was approached directly to play the role of the pilot in the series and he accepted. It was routine for him. He greatly enjoyed the experience.

He finished his career as a mechanic at Air Canada. He has circumnavigated the globe several times and his most cherished memory is certainly his winters spent in Hawaii.

As he says so well, the secret of his longevity is the fact that he ages less quickly because he only celebrates his birthday every four years...

Happy 100th birthday Mr. Vallières!

2,000 hours: Congratulations to Donat Dallaire and his wife Lucie

Congratulations to Donat Dallaire and his wife Lucie, who together built a magnificent Bush Caddy, powered by a Rotax 912S, and who reached, earleir this month, the symbolic mark of 2000 flight hours on their aircraft. By the way, the 100 hp Rotax engine on his plane is the 74th engine manufactured.

It took them 3 years to build this magnificent Bush Caddy. It hasn't aged a bit in 25 years.

Based at the Clermont private slope, in Charlevoix, Donat flies on skis and wheels.

Well done.
