Thompson Rivers University

Dear student, family, agents and institution partners,

Greetings from Thompson Rivers University! We trust you and yours are in great health. This is our 7th update for the Fall 2020 semester new international students amid COVID-19. We would like to provide a few updates to prepare you for the Fall 2020 intake.

Important! Update your Study Permit status

Your study permit status is critical for planning your Fall 2020 studies and to complete your registration. Please keep us updated with key changes to your study permit status, including:

  • If you have applied for your study permit or
  • If you have received your study permit approval (in principle) or
  • If you have received your study permit approval

UPDATE US NOW

Course Registration for the Fall 2020 Semester

Registration for the Fall semester has begun. New International students must be registered by our Admissions department based on plans prepared by Academic Advising. To be planned and registered, students must notify us of their study permit status. This form can be updated and re-submitted at any time.

When possible, courses will be planned with the student’s time zone in mind. Once registration is complete, students will be able to access their schedule through the myTRU student portal.

  • Priority will be given to students who have received a study permit or study permit approval in principle.
  • Students who have submitted their study permit application will also be added to the queue to be registered once we received your study permit application confirmation through this form.
  • Students without study permit approval may also be registered, upon request.

Travel to Canada and Quarantine Plan

Travel restrictions to Canada are still in place. As most of TRU’s programs are being delivered online this Fall, travel is considered non-essential. However, students may travel for face-to-face delivery programs or for other essential reasons if approved by TRU World. In these cases, students must have study permit approval and a confirmation letter from TRU.

Students who travel to Canada will be required to quarantine for 14 days upon arrival. For students who meet the requirements for essential travel, TRU will assist with providing a quarantine plan. If eligible, this plan will include on-campus accommodation at one of our residences, as well as meals, at no charge to the student, for the quarantine period.

Studying without a Study Permit

We recognize that many students are still waiting for study permit approval and may be worried about registration. If this is the case, we may allow students to be registered without a study permit, but this will require that they sign a waiver indicating their understanding of the risks if they do not receive their study permit approval by September 21. These risks include possible impact on Post-Graduation Work Permit and accepting the terms of our refund policy. We recommend students to contact a RISIA through tru.ca/meet or email risia@tru.ca to obtain the waiver document and discuss potential impact on PGWP.
