Message from the President

Dear members, dear partners,

On the occasion of International Women’s Day, our Human Resources Working Group collaborated with the Regroupement Relève d’Aéro Montréal to create a unique event. More than 120 participants gathered to discover the inspiring journey of those who are contributing, every day, to the advancement of our industry.

Six panelists, representing various sectors of the industry, generously shared their atypical journeys and achievements, but also their hopes for a new beginning for the aerospace industry in the post-crisis era. The message was unanimous: our industry has plenty of stimulating career opportunities that are accessible to women.

An engaged industry

Long seen as being predominantly male, our industry has recently demonstrated its willingness to diversify. Aéro Montréal and several companies in the cluster have committed to the 50-30 Challenge launched in December 2020 by Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada. Participation in this challenge signals a strong commitment to achieving a gender parity objective and a larger representation of under-represented groups on boards of directors and in senior management. Libellule Monde, Bell Textron Canada, CAE, Keitas Systems, Lockheed Martin Canada, Pratt & Whitney Canada and Concordia University are all cluster members that have joined with us for this challenge and I would like to commend their commitment!

Whether we are talking about manufacturing or space, women have often been sources of inspiration and drivers of spectacular advances in the industry. Just recently, Farah Alibay sparked our imagination by brilliantly leading the Perseverance mission. Let’s build on these success stories to continue our efforts to attract the female workforce of tomorrow. Let’s take advantage of our “relaunch” to put diversity at the heart of our teams and rebuild a stronger industry!

A great idea from the Cosmodôme Foundation

The mission of the Cosmodôme Foundation is to help children in need or in situations of adversity. The pandemic has disrupted the Cosmodôme Foundation's annual fundraising activity. The team explored alternative ways of financing the event and the idea of "one box, one class" was born. The "box" contains all the materials needed for two science awareness activities for 30 elementary school students. The activities in the box were designed specifically for students in grades 3 and 4 or 5 and 6, and could include making an astronaut menu, measuring your height as an astronaut, or making paper gliders.
