Mayor's Message

Mayor Steve Pellegrini

On behalf of King Township Council, welcome to the October edition of the King Bulletin.

Official Plan review

King is starting a review of its Official Plan, titled “Our KING”. The Official Plan Review will develop a roadmap to guide growth in King to the year 2051.

As the review gets underway, a video has been developed to start the conversation and explain the review process. You can watch it here.

It is an incredible process and opportunity for our community to get involved and we encourage everyone to do so.

Service level inventory and profiles

In an effort to improve the lives of citizens, and to be as transparent as possible to those who live, work and visit King, the Township has developed and launched its Service Inventory and Service Profiles webpages.

These Service Profiles detail the townships external facing service offerings, types and categorizations, governing legislations, service levels and associated standards.

The Township has launched easy-to-use website pages, informational videos, and a full service index to allow visitors to browse through all of the service profiles by department.

For more information about the service profiles, visit king.ca/serviceprofiles.

Mayor’s Youth Action Team applications

Do you know someone between the ages of 13 and 18 who would make a good advocate for youth issues? Let them know that King is now accepting applications for the Mayor's Youth Action Team.

Members of the team act as an advisory body to the Mayor and Council on matters which have an impact on youth in King.

They also foster a positive image of youth in our community by participating actively in community events and activities in King.

I’ve met so many amazing young people through this program and I can say the future of King is in good hands.

To apply, visit king.ca/MYAT.

Youth Dance

Speaking of youth, we will be hosting a youth dance on Friday, October 13 from 7:30 to 10 p.m. at the Nobleton Arena. The dance is open for youth ages 9-13 and the cost is $10 at the door.

The dance will be supervised by King staff and paid duty York Regional Police Officers.

Senior Programs

I’m proud to say we also have many programs for our senior population. Anyone aged 55 or older can take part. These programs allow seniors to stay fit, improve cognitive ability, create new friendships and much more.

By becoming a King Township Senior member you will have access to all three senior locations in King City, Nobleton and Schomberg.

For more information, including a schedule of the programs, visit king.ca/seniors.

Fall programs at Cold Creek

We have many fall programs running at one of our greenspace jewels, the Cold Creek Conservation Area.

Upcoming events include a group Walk N Woof that runs Sundays in October from 10 to 11 a.m. Bring your four-legged friends to walk the trails with other dog owners.

There will be evening hikes on Oct. 4 and 11 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Come out and make new friends while getting fit.

For more information on these and other programs, visit coldcreek.ca.

Please continue to volunteer, shop locally as much as you can and visit king.ca for the latest news on all things King.

Sincerely,

Mayor Steve Pellegrini

Truth and Reconciliation staff event honoured memory of murdered and missing Indigenous women and children

King Township staff recognized the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation with an event at the King Township Municipal Centre on Sept. 27.

In the continued journey and support for Truth and Reconciliation, staff held an in-person get together to wrap and iron Indigenous fabric on books. Each wrapped book represents a missing or murdered Indigenous woman or child.

The books will be temporarily displayed at the King Township Municipal Centre, then will be part of the Canadian Library as a permanent living art installation created as a memorial for missing or murdered Indigenous women and children. The Indigenous fabric was obtained in partnership with the Indigenous community.
