RECYCLE DEPOT UPDATE

RecycleBC has informed the District that the new recycle depot is experiencing operational delays and is not yet able to open as anticipated.

GFL extended their depot operations to accommodate the delay however the last day of GFL recycle depot operations is June 14.

RecycleBC is working to provide an interim solution and we will continue to keep the community updated.

17TH ANNUAL SQUAMISH SIKH FESTIVAL 

The 17th annual Squamish Sikh
Festival is back on Saturday, June 15 from
10 a.m. to 3 p.m.! This annual event is a celebration of the Sikh community honoring the martyrdom of the fifth Guru, Guru Arjan Dev Ji.

Hosted by the Squamish Sikh Society, the
festival includes a parade and langar, which involves members of the Sikh faith serving free prepared meals for the community.

All are welcome!

Temporary Road Closure: Cleveland Avenue will be closed from Victoria Street to Main Street between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. to accommodate this event.

ZONING BYLAW TUESDAY, JUNE 18

An update to the Zoning Bylaw to increase density standards across the District will be considered for adoption by Council on Tuesday, June 18.

2024 PROPERTY TAX AND UTILITIES PAYMENTS ARE DUE JULY 2, 2024

A late penalty of 5% will be applied after July 2, 2024. A second 5% penalty will be applied after July 31, 2024.

Please note, property owners are responsible for payment of the 2024 property taxes and utilities regardless of whether or not notices are received.
If you have not yet recieved your notice, please contact Financial Services at 604.815.5035.

The District has launched Stage 4 of the Garibaldi Neighbourhood Planning Process!

Residents are invited to attend one of three upcoming workshop events where staff will present a draft of the Garibaldi Estates Neighbourhood Plan.

2023 ANNUAL REPORT NOW AVALIABLE

The District of Squamish’s 2023 Annual Municipal Report will be presented at the June 18, 2024 Special Business Meeting in Council Chambers, Municipal Hall, located at 37955 Second Avenue, Squamish, BC.

Questions and input from the public are welcome and may be submitted by email to info@squamish.ca

The deadline for written submissions is 12 p.m. on June 18, 2024.

CN RAIL UPGRADE WORK UNDERWAY

CN crews are conducting upgrade work on the Cleveland Ave crossing in Downtown Squamish.

Intermittent single-lane closures will be in effect through next week. Please anticipate higher than normal traffic heading in and out of Downtown Squamish.

 

 

 

 

 

AVIATION DAY JUNE 15

Squamish Flying Club is hosting a Discover Aviation Day at Squamish Municipal Airport - Don Patrick Field. This is a fun-filled event designed to introduce kids 8 - 18 to the joy of aviation.

There will be a limited number of free flights for kids on a first-come-first-served basis! This event bigins at 10 a.m.

STAGE 1 WATER RESTRICTIONS REMAIN IN EFFECT

Stage 1 Outdoor Water Use restrictions allow for lawn watering two days per week between 4 and 10 a.m., and 7 and 10 p.m. on Thursday and Sunday for odd-numbered addresses, and Wednesday and Saturday for even-numbered addresses.

In Stage 1, a permit is required to water new sod/seeded lawns. Once Stage 2 is in effect permits will no longer be issued. Call Public Works at 604.815.6868 to obtain a free Outdoor Water Use permit to support additional watering to establish new lawns.

Leadership Camps
10-13yrs
Are you looking for ways to keep your teen or tween busy this summer? Check out our week-long Leadership Camps for kids 10-13! Campers will learn how to feel safe and confident when home alone or babysitting other children. They’ll learn how to make and prepare healthy snacks, take part in reading time with our little campers and create crafts and games. These are great options for teens and tweens who are ready for more independence and to start looking after others. Babysitter training certification is included with the level 2 camp.

 

Art Walk Studio Tour shuttle - July 13
The District of Squamish is providing a FREE shuttle departing from Brennan Park Recreation Centre at 12 p.m. to visit the open studios of Squamish Art Walk 2024. Anticipated return time to Brennan Park is 3 p.m.
Registration is required for this free shuttle.
Children 9+ welcome with an accompanying adult.
