Greetings from Thompson Rivers University! We trust you and yours are in great health. This is our 8th update for the Fall 2020 semester new international students amid COVID-19.

Study Permit Approval in Principle (AIP) and TRU's Refund Rules

If you are a student that has received your AIP, your seat at TRU is guaranteed. While we are working hard to get you registered into courses for Fall 2020, we would like to clarify TRU’s refund rules associated with IRCC's two-stage study permit approval process.

With your AIP, you are approved by IRCC and expected to start studying virtually this Fall. In case your study permit is refused at the second (final) stage of this process at any time during the Fall semester, TRU will provide a full refund deducting the non-refundable administrative fees of $200 CDN.

Your classes start on September 9 and you have until September 21 to confirm your AIP.

Your study permit status is critical for planning your Fall 2020 studies and to complete your registration. Please keep us updated with key changes to your study permit status, including:

• If you have applied for your study permit or
• If you have received your study permit approval (in principle) or
• If you have received your study permit approval

Did not receive an AIP or a Study Permit by September 21?

If you are unable to receive your AIP or Study Permit by September 21, you have two options: 
(1) Start with Fall 2020 without a study permit approval by signing this waiver, understanding the risks and impact on your PGWP as well as accepting the terms of our refund rules.
(2) You will be deregistered and have the option to defer to the next available intake.

Mandatory International Students Orientation Course (Sep. 1-3, 2020)

It is mandatory for all new Fall 2020 international students to take the Start Here 101 International Student Orientation - Fall 2020 course. Please follow the instructions here and see the schedule here. If you have any problems logging into Moodle or finding the Start Here 101 course, please contact Alex Bui at abui@tru.ca.
