Dear Timberlea-Prospect Residents,
We have entered the peak season of wildfires, extreme heat, and dry weather conditions. Last year’s devastating wildfires on the peripheral of our riding serves as a stark reminder of the effects of climate change and the importance of following the burn ban regulations and working together to mitigate potential fire hazards.
Last month the residents in Lake of Woods (LOW) and Cambrian’s Cove Subdivisions in Hubley organized a joint Community Wildfire Preparedness Day through the support of FireSmart Canada. The goal of the community was to remove the wildfire fuel (dead trees, brush, and debris) to reduce the risk of fire, and to take proactive initiatives in protecting lives and properties.
Mitchell Bell, a resident of LOW donated the use of his dump truck that hauled away three loads of debris. With the aid of over twenty-five volunteers, another 18 loads of utility trailer debris were donated to Kynock where it can be utilized for other purposes.
I would like to acknowledge and thank the leadership and logistical management that Chris Richards and Veronica Stinson provided to organize this event and the many volunteers that showed up to make it happen.
