Notice of Partial Closure: Smoke Bluffs Park

Due to the presence of a food-conditioned black bear, the District of Squamish has temporarilyy CLOSED the area in the vicinity of the playground and picnic area at the end of Smoke Bluffs Road effective today, August 8.

The Conservation Officer Service continues to urge the public to be aware and take extra precautions when using the Smoke Bluff trails. All visitors to parks in the District are required to securely store all attractants—DO NOT leave backpacks in open spaces unattended. Store all food and scented items in a vehicle, hard-sided trailer, or bear-proof locker. The closure is effective until further notice.

Conservation Officers are monitoring wildlife activity in the area and will respond as necessary to ensure public safety. Report human-wildlife conflicts to the Report All Poachers and Polluters (RAPP) hotline at 1-877-952-7277.

Wildlife Alert: Cougar Activity 

Multiple reports of confirmed and unconfirmed cougar interactions/sightings have been reported at Brohm Ridge, Brackendale and the Squamish Valley in the last few days. Residents are encouraged to be vigilant and be aware of important safety tips.

Notice of Impact: Victoria Street

The District of Squamish is constructing new protected bike lanes along Victoria Street to expand important bike lane connections through Downtown. Please expect the following impacts from August to November:

  • Work will take place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday to Friday.
  • Elevated noise levels in the vicinity of the work area.
  • Short-term traffic disruptions due to construction activities and vehicles.
  • This work is weather dependent. All efforts are being made to minimize impacts to the area.
  • Localized road closures along Victoria Street may be required.

Get in your Comfort Zone with Retrofit Assist!

Homeowners who are looking to make their houses more energy-efficient and comfortable have access to a FREE, one-to-one guidance session through the Retrofit Assist program.

Retrofit Assist will also work with the local construction industry to provide training and professional development courses so Squamish workers can benefit from the projected boom in retrofit activity in the future.
