CEWS, CERS to continue at current subsidy rates

Good news: the rates for the federal wage and rent subsidies will remain at their current levels until June 5.

  • The maximum wage subsidy (CEWS) rate will remain at 75%.
  • The maximum rent subsidy (CERS) rate will remain at 65%, with its lockdown support rate remaining at 25%.
  • You can use your 2019 numbers as a comparison for calculating your 2021 revenue drop as of March 14 and going forward.

To find out more about the changes, check our info pages on CEWS and CERS.

Don’t miss out on the improved rent subsidy!

There were huge problems with the old rent assistance (CECRA), but the new program has fixed a number of them. Even if you weren’t eligible before, you might be now! CERS works on a sliding scale, so you could be eligible even with a small reduction in revenue – and your landlord doesn’t need to opt in.You can still apply for the subsidy going back to September 27 (period 1). Get your application in now before the first deadline at the end of April!

Some businesses still left behind – and we’re still fighting

The fact that these programs are continuing is good news for eligible businesses. But many are still falling through the cracks, especially new businesses who only opened their doors in 2020. We are also calling on government to extend and expand the programs until the economy is fully open and Canadians can return to working in offices, dining, recreation and travel (with open borders). Add your voice to the fight!
