Emergency Medical Services "Fill the Rig" for local food banks

In appreciation of the support shown to them, Emergency Medical Services teams in the Central West region held two “Fill the Rig” food drives in December.

The initiatives brought in enough donations to support around 155 families during the holiday season.

Emergency Medical Services have benefited from strong community support, including equipment purchases that have enhanced operational capacity and strengthened the delivery of safe, effective emergency care. At the same time, teams recognize that many individuals and families are experiencing an increase in financial pressures, especially during the holidays. This is also the time when the demand for local food banks rises significantly.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority values the ongoing partnership between emergency medical service providers and the communities they serve, which reflects our shared commitment to safety, accountability and equity.

The teams extend their gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of this initiative. This marked the first annual “Fill the Rig” food drive; staff look forward to continuing it in future years and expanding it to additional communities.

Microsoft Publisher discontinuation and revised SHA templates

Microsoft Publisher will reach its end of life in October 2026 and will not be supported after this date. In preparation for this event, all departments/portfolios will need to convert their Publisher files to an alternate format before October 2026.

To assist with this, all SHA document templates originally developed in Microsoft Publisher have been replaced by Microsoft PowerPoint versions. These new templates can be found on the intranet page. In addition, a Work Standard for converting Publisher files to PowerPoint or Word format has been created with step-by-step instructions.

Please contact communications@saskhealthauthority.ca if you have questions.

 Clinical Documentation

New Acute Care Fall Prevention and Injury Reduction Program

Effective January 13, 2026, two new Acute Care Clinical Procedures have been implemented to support fall prevention and injury reduction across the province – one for inpatient settings and one for outpatient settings. The procedures, supporting documents, forms, and staff education, will standardize the Fall Prevention and Injury Reduction Program across all Saskatchewan Health Authority acute care sites; and will replace all existing fall prevention policies, work standards, and related documents currently in use within acute care settings.

A mandatory MyConnection learning module is available to all acute care areas to support readiness for full implementation on March 10, 2026.

For more information, please visit the Fall Prevention and Injury Reduction – Clinical Resources webpage or contact SHAFallsPrevention@saskhealthauthority.ca with any questions.
