    Staff - Zoology workshop spotlight

Jonathan is an engineering technician who joined the Zoology workshop in July 2023. He comes with a training background from the BCIT Aircraft Maintenance Engineering program and many years of experience in manufacturing, repair, and fabrication. In his spare time, he enjoys woodworking, spending time outdoors, and has combined these interests by building canoes to explore local waterways with his family.

The workshop is here to provide support to both teaching and research departments by maintaining equipment, building and assembling new equipment, and advising in the development of new devices and components that are needed to achieve your outcomes. It is equipped to work with a wide range of materials and processes, including: wood, metal, plastics, fiberglass, cutting, drilling, machining, welding, grinding and more.

Some examples of recent work include a rodent behaviour maze, sea star observation containers, welding/fabrication of new shelving, and ongoing maintenance support of the aquatics facility.

If you have a specific project in mind, or general inquiry to discuss, don’t hesitate to reach out by email jon@zoology.ubc.ca, or look for Jonathan at a Friday coffee and donuts.
