Quality Café!

Creating a Great Abstract for Your QI Work

July 18 | 1200 PT | Add to Your Calendar | Password: BCPSQC

How can we ensure our quality improvement efforts are leading to system-wide benefits? An important part of this process is sharing our results and lessons learned with others. One great way of doing this is presenting your QI project at a local, provincial, or even a national conference. Most often, to apply to present at a conference, you will be asked to submit an abstract. This is an important and sometimes intimidating step of the application process.

This Quality Café is for anyone thinking about submitting an abstract to present the results of their quality improvement project, or a novel idea of how to improve care, at an upcoming conference (such as BCPSQC’s 2019 Quality Forum!). During the session, participants will learn about:

  • the different parts of an abstract;
  • how to prepare for the writing process;
  • how to avoid some common downfalls; and
  • tips on increasing your chances of having your abstract accepted!

Writing an efficient and compelling abstract can be hard work, but the opportunity to share your QI story will repay you in its positive impact on patients and the health care system. It’s also a great opportunity to connect with potential collaborators who can help you advance your work!

June's Quality Café Recording

Why Embrace Organic Social Connections?

If you want to sustain a culture of patient safety that includes feeling comfortable to talk about concerns in order to learn and improve, why not use organic networks? Used alongside formal ways of knowledge dissemination and translation, informal social networks in health care can work to enhance patient safety learning and knowledge translation.

At this Quality Café, you’ll hear how a team at Providence Health Care identified organic networks among their staff to address patient safety concerns, and see how you can apply the strategies they used.

Quality Café is a free one-hour lunch-and-learn series that takes place on the third Wednesday of every month at 1200 PT. Each Café features a new guest and topic related to improving quality of care.
