Nov. 17 and 18: Support the Heat as court sport season continues

Need an escape from textbooks? Join us in the Gym for exciting Heat volleyball and basketball action throughout November and December.

The volleyball teams will be back on campus on November 17 and 18 to take on the Saskatchewan Huskies before battling the University of Alberta on November 24 and 25.

Heat action wraps up before the exam break when the basketball teams tangle with the UNBC Timberwolves on December 1 and 2.

And remember, UBCO students get in for FREE for every regular season home game.

Nov. 19 and 26: Intercultural Sport Series – Taekwondo Workshop

Join the Taekwondo Club for two action-packed, adrenaline-fueled sessions! Whether you’re a prodigy or simply curious about martial arts, this session is perfect for anyone wanting to learn self-defense, de-stress from academics, and make new friends.

Join for one session or come on out for both. Be sure to bring a water bottle with you and wear comfortable workout attire!

Nov. 21 and Dec. 5: UBCO Farmer’s Market

Browse community and student vendors selling produce, food, and goods. The Farmer’s Market also provides an opportunity for students, staff, and faculty to showcase projects, initiatives, clubs, and more to the campus community. Nov. 22: Undergraduate Research Awards information session

Are you an undergraduate student interested in conducting original research? This summer, the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences will be running the Undergraduate Research Award and International Undergraduate Research Award programs. Please join us on Wednesday, November 22nd from 4 to 5 pm in FIP 139 to learn more about these opportunities. FASS students and FOS students studying a BSc in Psych are eligible for the programs.

Nov. 28: Thrive Community Meal

Build community and enjoy a free, nourishing meal with Picnic staff and volunteers as they prepare a large batch of a primarily plant-based meal in celebration of Thrive Month!

Meals are free and open to all members of the UBCO community. Help us reduce waste by bringing your own clean container with you. See you on November 28 from 12 to 1:30 pm (or until the food runs out) at Picnic.

Nov. 28: UBCO annual water rocket competition

Join us for the annual Water Rocket Competition on Tuesday, November 28 from 3:30 to 4 pm on Nonis Sports Field. Watch the action as first-year physics students compete against each other with self-built water-propulsion rockets.

You can also swing by the Hands-on Projects Presentation Day in the EME Foyer from 3 to 5 pm to watch students compete while conducting various physics demonstrations. Projects will be evaluated by Physics and Engineering professors while they choose the top three demos of the day.

Dec. 8: Exam Jam – finals focus

Exam Jam is back to help you get ready for finals! This essential exam prep event can help you de-stress, manage your time, develop productive study habits, review course content, and learn about academic integrity. Get a head start on studying for exams or wrapping up final projects while enjoying snacks and hot beverages with your UBCO community.

Collect three stamps when participating in activities at Exam Jam or for each hour of study in the Student Learning Hub and use your stamps to enter to win an Amazon Fire tablet!

Join as a survey participant by going onto our website and taking a 10-minute survey!

New OER Excellence and Impact Awards accepting nominations

The OER Excellence and Impact Awards are teaching and learning awards that recognize outstanding work done by faculty who materially advance the use and impact of open educational resources (teaching materials that are free of cost barriers, and which also carry legal permission for reuse) in credit courses at UBC. The award program consists of one individual and one team-based award of $5,000 each year per UBC campus.

Students and other UBC community members are invited to nominate faculty and teams on both campuses.

Are term papers sneaking up on you? Get it written with the Student Learning Hub

Working on a paper or project? Preparing for an essay exam? Just studying for finals? Come write with us at the Student Learning Hub and get those papers written!

This event is drop-in, so you can join us for as much or as little time as you want. We will have hot drinks and snacks, as well as writing consultants available for drop-ins and to answer questions about written assignments and essay exams.

Everyone has papers to finish and exams to study for, but snacks and support can make it a bit easier!
