Due to an increasing volume of applications for solar installations, functionality has been added for property owners, solar retailers, and non-electrical contractors to submit Solar Micro-Generation applications.

I am an electrical contractor – what does this mean for my process?

The dual workflow for electrical contractors to obtain a Residential/Commercial Electrical Permit and Interconnection Agreement for solar installations remains unchanged.

However, electrical contractors may notice a higher demand to obtain Electrical Permits on behalf of individuals who have previously completed their own Solar Micro-Generation application. If you are an electrical contractor and have been hired to obtain an Electrical Permit for a solar installation, please use the Electrical Permit workflow on πŸ”—eApply.

Which workflow is which?

Solar Micro-Generation – This workflow can only be accessed via πŸ”—the City’s website and is strictly intended for non-electrical contractors, such as property owners or solar retailers.

The applicant will receive an Interconnection Agreement, which must be:

  • signed by the property owner,
  • returned to Electric Design, and
  • forwarded to a certified electrical contractor who has a valid City of Lethbridge business licence to obtain an Electrical Permit for the solar installation.

Electrical Permit & Solar Micro-Generation – This dual workflow exists for Residential and Commercial projects and can only be completed by certified electrical contractors who have a valid City of Lethbridge business licence. This can be accessed through πŸ”—eApply.
