Poverty and climate change are linked. To solve one, we need to address the other.

Dr. Jiaying Zhao's expert testimony to the Canadian Senate on Bill S-233, an Act to develop a national framework for a guaranteed livable basic income, is now available to watch on YouTube.

"The need to raise the income floor has never been greater," she said, "since more people are being displaced by the rising living costs and the devastating environmental disasters in Canada."

Watch Zhao's testimony at the 12:36 mark

We’ve all heard about islands in the Pacific threatened by rising seas. But what's it like to live there? Check out a trailer for a new mini-podcast, hosted by Dr. Simon Donner, to hear from people in Kiribati and Fiji about local perspectives on responding to climate change!

New course on Energy Economics at SPPGA

The goal of this course is to understand how energy in the form of electricity and heat is produced, transported, traded, and consumed. And how new technologies like solar photovoltaics, batteries, and hydrogen are changing the economics of the sector as they replace coal, oil, and natural gas. With this economic foundation, coupled with perspectives from real-world applications, and perspectives from related disciplines, this course will enable students to sharpen their ability to understand, evaluate, and critique energy policy.
