Committees and other units - updates

ZEDI: Zoology Equity, Diversity & Inclusion Committee

  • Working towards reconciliation requires a metamorphosis of our educational practices. The CTLT provides support for all instructors at UBC in working towards Indigenization, decolonization, and reconciliation in the classroom. Learn how to go further than territorial acknowledgements in your course curriculum. Visit https://indigenousinitiatives.ctlt.ubc.ca/ for more information and look out for a new training program launching next year called Indigenous Learning Pathways.

  • The current UBC Land Use Plan (LUP) includes doubling the UBC residential population and allowable building heights. Most of the new housing units on campus will be available at market rates, which are unaffordable to most!

The LUP Public Hearing will be held on Nov. 7th at 4pm at Jack Pool Hall at the Robert H. Lee Alumni Center. You can contribute to this conversation by speaking at the hearing, submitting written comments or a pre-recorded video (due Nov. 2nd). Please register if you wish to speak at the hearing in-person. Visit https://campusvision2050.ubc.ca/lup for more details.

  • Effective Mentorship of Racialized Graduate Students Final Report
The EMRGS initiative is a two-year student-led project funded by the Anti-Racism Initiatives Fund and G+PS which began with a survey and focus groups and culminated in a one-day forum. Inspired by a 2021 op-ed by graduate student Dwayne Tucker, this project focuses on capturing the complexities, gaps, successes, and possibilities of mentoring racialized UBC graduate students.
