Honouring four outstanding leaders at the 2024 BCIT Distinguished Awards

BCIT will host the 19th annual Distinguished Awards on November 14th, 2024, honouring four recipients of the Honorary Doctorate of Technology, Distinguished Alumni Award, FSA Distinguished Alumni Award, and the Outstanding Student Leadership award. These honourees embody the values of BCIT and are an inspiration in their field.

Mark Angelo, C.M., O.B.C. will receive the Honorary Doctorate of Technology, while Kristy James will be awarded the BCIT Distinguished Alumni Award. Donabel Santos will be recognized with the BCIT FSA Distinguished Alumni Award and the BCIT Outstanding Student Leadership Award will be given to Sally Poon.

BCIT named 2024 Canada’s Best Employers for Diversity

Forbes named BCIT one of Canada’s Best Employers for Diversity 2024. These annual rankings are developed by Forbes and Statista and evaluation is done on three criteria: personal recommendations, public recommendations, and diversity key performance indicators including gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, and disability. Read more.

BCIT researcher using drones and AI in the battle against wildfire

With forest fires top of mind for many of us, BCIT researchers are using Remotely Piloted Aircraft, or “drones”, combined with AI to assist with forest fire management. BCIT Computing’s Dr. Michal Aibin is part of a team of faculty, students, and industry partner Spexi Geospatial, who are using drones to assess fire risk using high-resolution imagery. Read more.

New BCIT microcredential supports internationally-trained engineers into the Canadian workforce

BCIT is proud to launch the Canadian Engineering Professional Practice microcredential program to support internationally-trained engineers in entering the Canadian engineering workforce. The program familiarizes internationally graduated engineers with the practice of engineering in Canada and the regulatory framework of the profession. Read more.

BCIT is a BC Hydro Clean Energy Champion

BCIT was awarded the Clean Energy Champion award from BC Hydro for the Institute’s work investing in clean energy and reducing green-house gas (GHG) emissions. Throughout August, BC Hydro featured BCIT in a series of social media videos focusing on the new Tall Timber Student Housing project, green industry training offerings, and BCIT’s innovative approach to involving students in on-campus sustainability initiatives. Read more.

BCIT and CASTL celebrate BC Biomanufacturing Training Facility

BCIT and the Canadian Alliance for Skills and Training in Life Sciences (CASTL), in partnership with the Province of BC and Government of Canada, celebrated the new BC Biomanufacturing Training Facility at the BCIT Aerospace Technology Campus in Richmond. This revolutionary facility will aid in addressing talent and skill shortages in the biopharmaceutical industry and support the life sciences business sector in British Columbia. Read more.

Since 1985, the Alumni Association, in partnership with the BCIT Foundation has proudly awarded 1,125 students scholarships and bursaries totalling more than $1.36 million since 1995.
