Welcome to our September Newsletter!

September is Disability Employment Month—a time to recognize the valuable skills, experiences, and contributions that people with disabilities bring to the workplace. It is also an opportunity to promote inclusive hiring practices, reduce employment barriers, and create workplaces where everyone has an equal opportunity to succeed.

This month is packed with exciting hiring events, employer connections, and practical workshops to support you at every stage of your employment journey. Whether you are actively looking for work, preparing to connect with employers, or exploring strategies to strengthen your job search, there are many opportunities to get involved. We encourage you to review the event details in this newsletter and register early, as space may be limited.

We are also pleased to introduce several new workshops this September:

• Navigating Disclosure of a Disability – Learn how to make informed decisions about if, when, and how to disclose a disability in the workplace. The workshop will also explore workplace accommodations, communication strategies, and your rights and responsibilities.
• Job Search for Mature Workers – A new monthly workshop offering practical strategies for older workers navigating today’s job market. Topics include focusing on what you can control, managing rejection, highlighting transferable skills, and addressing negative stereotypes about mature workers.
• Get Job Fair Ready – Prepare to make a positive impression at an upcoming hiring event. Learn how to introduce yourself professionally, speak confidently with employers, ask meaningful questions, and make the most of networking opportunities.

 Septermber WorkBC Hiring Fair | Sep 28, 2026

Join us at the WorkBC Midtown Hiring Fair to connect directly with employers, learn about current job openings, and make valuable professional connections.

Time: 12:00 p.m.–4:00 p.m.

• 12:00–1:00 p.m. — Priority access for people who identify as having a disability

• 1:00–4:00 p.m. — General admission for all job seekers

The 2026 September Job Fair is happening on September 3, bringing together more than 30 employer exhibitors from high‑demand industries across Metro Vancouver. Job seekers will have the opportunity to meet recruiters, explore career pathways, and learn about current hiring needs directly from employers.

The event will take place at the Anvil Centre in New Westminster, just steps away from the New Westminster SkyTrain Station!

Skills Training Information Session | September 14, 2026

Interested in learning more about WorkBC sponsored training options? This is your chance to learn from our in-house expert Candace Lee, who will discuss what it looks like to access training through WorkBC and share her experience on how it works. A few points during the presentation include details of filling out the application package, the importance of the application, and its components.

WorkBC Leads is starting soon!

In group workshops, various topics are covered to assist in preparing for, finding and maintaining employment, as well as health and safety. Each pathway will bring you a step closer to enhancing wellness, increasing employability and strengthening confidence.
