Community Banner Workshop

In this free workshop you will design and develop an original artwork for the City of Delta Community Banner Contest. The goal is to create a visually engaging banner that reflects the spirit of Delta and connects with the local community. Students will begin by brainstorming ideas based on the contest theme, exploring what makes Delta unique. Through sketches and concept development, they will create meaningful designs that highlight elements such as natural landscapes, cultural diversity, and community life. Take inspiration from Delta’s environment—its parks, waterways, wildlife—as well as its people, traditions, and multicultural character. The final artwork should be bold, original, and suitable for display as a street banner, promoting pride in Delta while celebrating creativity and local talent.

Feature Exhibitions

1986.89.1 Edith Pearson’s No.3A Folding Kodak c.1905

Join us this summer as we explore a life of leisure on the shores of Boundary Bay during the early twentieth century through the photos of Edith Pearson. Edith documented her summer vacations at Boundary Bay using a No. 3A Folding Pocket Kodak.

The No. 3A was a line of large bellows cameras that was manufactured from 1903 to 1915. Edith Pearson (née Major), to whom this camera belonged, was born in New Westminster in 1867. In 1896, the Pearsons and Majors purchased recreational property together at Boundary Bay in Delta. Edith acquired an avid interest in photography including the development and printing of her own film. Judging by the number of photos taken by Edith in the Delta Archives, the Pearsons enjoyed many idyllic summers of picnics, berry picking, and entertaining at their summer camp known as Edgewood.

Join us at the Discovery Centre for the Opening Reception on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, from 6:00 to 7:30pm!
