Message from the President | | Dear members, dear partners, During the International Aerospace Innovation Forum last December, everyone agreed with the following statement: to ensure the success of our recovery, the industry must adopt a systemic approach that focuses on innovation and Eco-mobility. Before the crisis, the Québec government had invited Québec aerospace industry players (companies, universities and research centres) to work together to develop a proposal that would stimulate innovation, investment (local and foreign), open collaboration, growth and commercialization, as well as sustainable development. Convinced that the aerospace industry in Québec and Greater Montréal must ensure that it maintains its leadership position by acquiring a global signature/reputation, Aéro Montréal has mobilized to support the establishment of the Québec Aerospace Innovation Zone. After identifying the sector’s strengths, capitalizing on the cluster’s three existing hubs – Pôle St-Laurent, Pôle Longueuil and Pôle Mirabel – the team submitted its proposal in November 2020 and has recently obtained the government's acknowledgment of receipt that the proposal is in the evaluation phase of the process. By building on the complementarity of these three hubs (training, R&D and manufacturing) and by proposing an open collaboration among companies, municipalities, researchers and universities, the Québec Aerospace Innovation Zone would make it possible to assemble major structuring projects for the benefit of all stakeholders. The mission of these projects would be to respond to the technological and environmental challenges facing the industry and focus, in particular, on the following themes: decarbonization; electrification; autonomy (drones, flying taxis, vertical take-off and landing aircraft - E-VTOL); digitization; advanced manufacturing; and innovative materials. By demonstrating local expertise in innovation, this zone would also be a terrific technological showcase. It would attract investment and talent by underscoring Québec’s capabilities and strengths. For our next generation, this zone would definitely be inspiring and would solidify the positive impact of an ecosystem focused on collaboration and the sharing of best practices. The mobilization generated by this project is illustrating again how our industry, looking to the future, is promoting collaborative work to help it take off once again. | | | | | Maintenance of essential services Following the announcement of the lockdown from January 9 to February 8, 2021, economic activities related to logistics and freight transport are being maintained. Here is the aggregated information concerning the decree of January 8. Closing of non-essential businesses: - Businesses considered non-essential must close their doors until February 8, 2021. Businesses that are licensed to operate must provide only those goods and services that are considered essential.
- However, curbside pickup is permitted. For example, it is possible to purchase a product online and have it delivered or picked up on site, without entering the store, while respecting health regulations.
- Since January 9, in order to conform with the 8 p.m. curfew, all businesses have to close their doors no later than 7:30 p.m.
- During the curfew period, pharmacies and gas stations remain opened as usual. Pharmacies are allowed to sell medications and essential items, while gas stations only allowed to sell food, gasoline and road vehicle products.
Manufacturing and construction sectors: - Reduction of activities to the minimum necessary to ensure that commitments are met.
- Requirement to work from home when possible and adjustment of shifts to limit the number of people working at production and construction sites at the same time.
- CNESST will intensify its interventions in the workplaces to ensure compliance with health regulations.
